How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
Adam Booth was on Ringside yesterday and basically was questioning where this notion of Audley being a big and dangerous puncher has originated from. I must say this is a sentiment that I share.
Clearly he has shown recently that he has one punch knockout ability in prizefighter etc. but my question is just how much much punching power does he have in heavyweight terms? Do you have any doubt that were he to catch Haye clean with a left that he would crumble?
I'm sure many of you feel the same but I've noticed something very strange with this fight. When it was first announced most people called it an absolute mismatch etc. but in recent weeks people have been watching the Barrett and Sprott fights, rewatching the Carl Thompson fight and hearing of Tony Thompson dropping Haye in sparring and suddenly giving Audley a good chance (the odds on Audley have come in reflecting this and I've hear many people now call it a 50-50 fight!)
I've felt myself getting involved with the hype as well so I've had to take a step back, look at if objectively and come back to my first thoughts that this will be over in 6 rounds in favour of Haye.

The build-up to this fight has demonstrated, yet again, just how influential a well-oiled PR machine driving information through media outlets with a vested interest can, by utilising the Big Lie technique, effectively polish up a turd and serve it piping hot to a slavering audience. The truth will slam home when the taste meets the taste buds, but it'll be too late then.
Re: How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
I don't think he has punching power on a par with the real monsters like Tua, a young Tyson, Foreman; indeed, he is not the biggets puncher in this fight, but he is no powder puff either and, for all he is chronically scared of getting hit, he has never shown anything to suggest a glass chin on the level Haye arguably has. Indeed, the whole "Fraudly" thing may well work in his favour on this occasion as he will try hard to keep Haye at length and make the champion do his damndest to get close, which may result in some fatigue.
Not that I think he will win, but I can see an argument as to how he might. More likely he gets too distant and loses a wide decision, or gets himself sparked early doors. But it is a lot more credible of a challenge for Haye than most people, myself included, first thought.

I do agree. Audley is hardly Foreman is he. He can punch, but his KO victories haven't come against top class guys. No offence to Sprott, but he's a couple of levels below Haye in terms of talent.

The odds for Audley haven't come in that much, he is available at around 5/1, with Haye as short as 1/11.
There will have been a few people getting sucked in by the hype and putting there hard-earned on an Audley KO, but not enough for the odds to be reduced dramatically.

Dangerous enough to put Haye on his back and thats all Adam Booth should be worrying about

He can bang with that left hand, but it takes him too long to set himself to throw it. Haye will be too quick to allow him to counter.
Id like to see it go to the 9th or more but I just cant se it getting past the 3rd. Only one outcome for me.

People need to take a step back from the hype....
What was your initial reaction when the fight was made?
Well go with that opinion - that was made with a clear head & more often than not your 1st impression is usually the right one.
I'm quite a big betting man & i myslef remember being sucked in with the Hatton hype agianst Mayweather.... never again - i learnt my lesson from that fight.
Take heed people

Re: How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
He's a puncher at domestic level, which is enough to put Haye over. I doubt that it's enough to put Haye out.
Re: How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
To summerise....... (for people who can't read between the lines)
Harrisons left hand is as dangerous as a freezer is to a ice-cube
If i was him i'd be concerning myself with Haye's right![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Harrison's left hand contains no significance at all when discussing it against the sport's all-time names but it certainly is an issue when comparing it against Haye's chin.

Agree with Hatton-Mayweather being a great example of people getting sucked in about hype. (although I do think it was also a lot to do with heart over mind with Hatton being British)

Well, my initial reaction was "Oh feck, not Audrey", but only because I am officially a David Haye nut-hugger & I've long suspected that Harrison has the size & the tools to do him up like a kipper. I've stuck with that. I've not wanted to see this fight since before it was announced & when I watch it, it shall be from between clenched fingers, with my lucky ringside seat antimacassar from the Mormeck fight draped over my shoulders as a talisman.
Re: How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
Harrison def hits hard enough to stretch Haye out, Enzo Macc had easily enough power to do that to. However I think Haye will get to the Olympic champion first

Re: How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
Knocking out the journeyman, often beaten Michael Sprott, who was on his retirement tour of Europe, before somehow being handed a European titleshot that he had done nothing to deserve, does not make Audley a puncher.
Knocking out a couple of Novice fighters in Prizefighter should also not make people think Audley is a banger. Audley has ok power but not shown anything when he has stepped upto Fringe World class.
The hype machine has worked on alot of people who think this will be competitive. The only puncher in the ring on the night will be David Haye.

Re: How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
But at least Hatton was unbeaten, had some wins over world class opposition (Tszyu, Castillo) and was widely viewed as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world at that time. Also Mayweather had come off a pretty average performance in beating Baldomir and had looked vulnerable in the first half of the fight with de la Hoya. Therefore it was reasonable to assume that Hatton had a chance. Harrison has none of the above and so can only win with a big shot in my opinion.UpperCrust wrote:Kilsby wrote:People need to take a step back from the hype....

Ask yourselves this. Would David Haye have been taken the distance by... Derrick McCafferty, Mark Krence, Dominic Negus, Ratko Drasovic, Julius Francis, Dominic Guinn, Danny Williams, George Arias and Martin Rogan?
If you believe the answer is 'yes', you either know little about boxing or are, in fact, Audley himself.
It doesn't take a genius to work out who the puncher is in this fight.

Well, I can see your point of view & Haye is certainly the bigger puncher in the fight. However, I really cannot see how some people can be so sure that an eighteen stone man will not be able to knock down Haye. It's not like Harrison's a total arm puncher, like Vit Klit (who of course would be able to wear David down & overwhelm him simply under the weight of those robotic stiff-armed kickboxer taps). Audley at least turns the hips & shifts the weight into the left hand, so I really can't see how it's unimaginable --when Lolenga Mock had his legs doing funny things-- that a bloke the size of Audley could put him away.
Of course, I pray to Satan that I'm wrong, but...

Its not impossible but I believe highly unlikely. Harrison will still be dreaming about throwing the left hand when he's taking a 10 second nap.Datsue wrote:WelshDevil wrote:Knocking out the journeyman, often beaten Michael Sprott, who was on his retirement tour of Europe, before somehow being handed a European titleshot that he had done nothing to deserve, does not make Audley a puncher.

I know people like to use the Mock fight as an example that Haye can't take a punch but I see it as relevant as saying "look what Ross Purrity did to Wlad Klitschko", it happened but has no bearing on the here and now.
I can't see Audley rushing Haye as some have said elsewhere, as Audley doesn't fight like that and John Ruiz already tried that trick and landed on his backside in 25/35 seconds. If Audley is to land the left then it will be from behind the tight guard and counterpunching but he hasn't the speed to catch Haye from that stance. Hitting David Haye flush is alot harder than hitting Michael Sprott.
I personally see a repeat of the Haye vs Enzo fight - cautious opening round and then allover in the 2nd.

Fair enough mate & I do fervently hope that the scenario you envisage comes about.WelshDevil wrote:

Re: How dangerous/powerful is Audleys left hand?
audley has looked like dog sh*t in every fight i have seen him in...wonder if the audley fan boys who are calling this a 50/50 fight can name 1 fight where audley has looked anything other then a domestic level heavyweight (and thats being generous)....

There is only one man in this match up that has been absolutely poleaxed.
Haye has been over, but he has invariably got up to KO the other guy.
His only defeat, happened on his feet.
