I've decided to remove some earlier posts. From a legal perspective I dont want to comment on the development at Eastside or land Boxrec in the shit.

Seriously fellas, do you reckon it was Spud's undying love for one promoter that upset another?
Either way, ridiculous turnout.

I feel like a snide to Boxrec, i always end up here when the proverbial hits the fan! I think i'll blow out ESB altogether and stay here, far more reliable and level headed here.

Well here everyones views are respected, and the debate is top slot.

At British Eastside there was "Spud's view, ...and the wrong view".

Any anti-Hennessy comments could lead to a banning. Unfortuantely Spud & Lightsoot were very poor moderators, and they lost a number of people who were willing to contribute extensively to the forum.

It was almost run as a stupid little club. If you respected Hennessy fighters and mentioned it often enough, you became one of Spud's poodles and your views were "respected", and your boxing knowledge "extensive", and your arguments "well thought out".

Sadly if you were of a differing view to Spud & Lightsoot, you were generally regarded as some sort of trouble maker, and eventually banned.

Thank god Boxrec doesn't operate the same way!!

Bizarre as this may seem I am going to stick up for the guy.

Alot of the accusations may be fair, but alot aren't.

I have had my run-ins with him, and he could definitely get over-excited and possibly illogical, but he was about passion for the sport and did a lot to make that site more interesting, and I daresay that a few of us could reasonably be labelled excitable and passionate (easy tiger).

Ironically it would seem that Spud's over-zealous tub-thumping has really landed him in it.

he does (sadly) appear to be gathering a rep' for cursing sites with closedown!

That's absolute bollocks, Loftgroov. I have little time for Hennessy. I never banned anyone for disagreeing with me either. Rightly or wrongly the only regulars that were banned were Kilburn and Bennie - two excellent posters who admittedly were missed.

You were banned because we felt your comments about the demise of Alex Arthur were a little close to the bone. Mindful of how twitchy Sports Network could be we made a judgement call, as you weren't a regular poster you didn't get the benefit of the doubt. You can judge a forum by its popularity, and in terms of that Eastside has to be considered a success.

That's not a dig at Boxrec because there's some cracking posters here as well. I just dont regard you as being one of them.

All true, he done a good job in some respects and was passionate about the fight game. He took things very personally though and treated it as his baby. I've no bad feelings for him or anyone though, it's only a forum.

Well I for one never missed Spud. I found very little of what he said to be interesting or amusing, just repetitive.

That said I know he worked hard and I'm not happy at all to see British Eastside wiped out.

Those are the fairest and (IMO) only reasonable accusations. His aggressive defence of his pet topics became less easy to defend eventually.

Spud struck me as a self-serving egomaniac. I wrote for eastside, and had no involvement with Spud or British eastside, which i considered a poor relation to the main site.

I sent a message on the forum to David Haye regarding doing an interview with him.

Next thing I know, I get a threatening email from spud, about how I should watch my step, how I am treading on his toes, how HE IS EASTSIDE BOXING, how all my dealings with eastisde will come through him from now on

I ended up making a telephone call to Spud, where he informed me that he was Mr Boxing, and how he could get anything done, how he knew everyone worth knowing in boxing, how he was thick as thieves with the Hennessey camp, how he was mates with everyone at boxing news, basically giving it the Charlie big potatoes. The man is obviously determined to make a name for himself by giving it the large one, and his manner towards me was totally unjustified.

I emailed the administrators at eastside immediately, and told them that this wasn't on, and whether I had to adhere to what Spud demanded, and they told me that no I didn't, as he only ran the British section. Spud then recanted and asked me to please send all my articles only to British eastside to boost it up, which I didn't do, as I didn't see why only people who went to British Eastside

I do think that you cannot have a situation where the main moderator of a website is flagrantly promoting Mick Hennessey shows, and slagging off Warren's shows. It's not a smart way to do things. I am openly critical of Warren fighters on occasions at maxboxing, but you've got to be even handed and give praise where it is due, and also you have to do it in a reasonable manner, otherwise you are asking for it.

As long as it's not percieved that you being openly anti or pro one promoter or another, then there are no problems.

One thing which strikes me though, is that the Daily Mirror allow allegedly column inches to promote his own fighters and shows and slag off everyone else in British boxing who competes with him, how come none of them have brought a lawsuit against Warren for defamatory remarks, or against the paper for allowing that to be the case, surely that is a bit of a no-no. It would be like British telecom having a column in the paper slagging off one-tel every week, it wouldn't be allowed.

in defence of lightsoot I always found him to be a very fair moderator at ESB, and a very good poster too.
I think loftgroove is also a very good poster and shouldn't have been banned at ESB either.
Maybe time to bury the hatchet - cause it wont be long before warren casts his beady eyes over here too...

But like people say, spud was definitely OTT when it came to Henessey fighters - I believe he was the same at britbox except it was Maloney fighters that time...
I know he was completely out of order in his dealings with bennie, not just the banning but going well past the mark in other areas too. So I doubt we'll see him here - that said I don't mind if he posts here, just as long as he's not admin - cause that seems to be the Kiss Of Death!!

Lightsoot - as I recall you said, quote "you've always been a total c*nt on here" ..and then called for my banning.

Somewhat extreme for some comments regarding Alex Arthur.

The feeling is mutual regarding the quality of contributions. You are also not someone I consider worthwhile paying any attention to.

I think it's best you & I ignore one another now (I certainly am).

I stand by that. I felt your criticisms of Spud as a brand new poster were exaggerated, almost as if you'd made a deliberate beeline for him as others occasionally did.

You're squealing otherwise though. I guarantee someone else will arrive at the same opinion of me as regards to you. But, it's not difficult to keep out of each others way.

Got to agree with Mighty Warrior here - I always found Lightsoot to be a fair handed and responsible moderator. I never hide my objections to Spud's position - the man was so far from being 'moderate' as to be faintly rediculous.

Loftgroove, you had an unfortunate run in with Lightsoot but lets try and get on with things here. Petty bickering just clogs dow what we are here to do - discuss boxing.

I've decided to join here too - under a different name - new name, new start.

There were lots of things wrong with Eastside, I haven't looked enough to see if the same problems exist here, but here's hoping...

Anyway, hello everyone....

I reckon the British board at ESB will return minus Spud.
I reckon , reading his post on the General board at ESB and the fact it was said he can't be PMd , Spud's been banned.
Maybe the bias to one promoter was his undoing as many said it would/should be.
