Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
How would Haye have dealt with the RJJ who beat Ruiz
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
I would Fancy Jones back then as thats when he was the main man
if he avoided hayes huge right then he would be able to out fox haye
after that going back down weights ect he was never the same

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
I still think Haye would have knocked him out. Ruiz was the ideal fighter for Jones to look good against. Slow, lumbering, fights in straight lines and not a big puncher. These factors simply allowed Jones to dance around him and get in and out with quick bursts which caught the judges eye.
Haye is entirely different. He has fast hands and feet, hits like a mack truck, throws shots from all angles and is a much bigger guy than Jones. Jones may have made it competative for a while but as soon as Haye landed, which he would, Jones would be knocked unconcious.

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Haye would have been too powerful and stopped Jones Jr.
Jones looked great against Ruiz as he is slow and doesn't hit all that hard for a top class heavy. Roy could simply box and move all night. Haye has better movement and is far faster than Ruiz and would have been able to land at some point. I just don't think a boxer as small as Jones could have stood up to Haye's shots.

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
I don't know whether Jones slipped his mind or not, but Ruiz said Haye was the fastest guy he fought. The Roy that beat Ruiz was pretty special. He had enough power to buckle Ruiz's legs and that would have been enough to drop Haye I would have thought so Haye would probably respect his power. Roy was an awesome counter puncher and comination puncher and his reflexes were still shit hot at that point. Plus Haye says he doesn't like fighting smaller guys, which Roy would have been. I think that the prime Roy that beat Ruiz would have been fast enough to avoid a big shot to pot shot his way to victory on points.
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Don't think a 2003 Roy Jones was anywhere near his prime, but he did look good against Ruiz and would have cause Haye problems. Funny, Hayes reminds me of Jones sometimes, the left hand low right hand guard, the little flinches, the hand speed, the grant gloves....
Jones's chin was always likely a problem and against someone of Hayes size and speed coupled with Davids power it could have ended badly for jones. Although, Haye still looks gassed after 6 rounds so Roy may have been able to avoid any massive shots and started to take Haye apart later in the fight.

Think the combination of speed and power would have ended in a KO defeat for Roy. Roy was very special, but he fought the perfect opponent in Ruiz at heavy. He never really got hit with a flush shot all night.

Thanks for all the opinions
, I think Roy's movement and speed would have posed a bit of a conundrum early on and would have some success but ultimately Haye's own speed and power would break Roy down and stop him

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Haye had the speed to catch up with Roy and the skills. Think he would have put Roy to sleep.
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
he'd of got ko'd :!: lolenga mock a mediocre 12st fighter had him down & sprawling round the ring like a 13yr old who's just bolted.Final round wrote:How would Haye have dealt with the RJJ who beat Ruiz
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Haye would win withuot many problems. Stylistically this would be a very tough fight for Jones. He could excell against bigger, but slow heavyweights, but not a guy like Haye who would not only have size and power, but speed and skill.
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Mock did have Haye down, but since that time Haye has beaten much bigger and better opposition.hurlock wrote:he'd of got ko'd :!: lolenga mock a mediocre 12st fighter had him down & sprawling round the ring like a 13yr old who's just bolted.Final round wrote:How would Haye have dealt with the RJJ who beat Ruiz

Roy is clearly turning away from the shot as it is landing!!stujones wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Think the combination of speed and power would have ended in a KO defeat for Roy. Your only demonstrating my point.
Thanks for that.
In fact if you look closely, the shot hasn't even landed! The glove is just shy of actually touching Roy, and you can tell by the fact his face isn't contorted, that it hasn't made impact.
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Can't believe that was over 7 and half years ago - I remember staying up at uni and watching it on some fledgling irish satellite channel called Setanta! The colonel was commentating. I think Ruiz even had a six pack. Roy was punch perfect. Then 6 months later the Tarver fight and it all went down hill.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Roy is clearly turning away from the shot as it is landing!!stujones wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:Think the combination of speed and power would have ended in a KO defeat for Roy. That was a novice version of Haye. He got caught by a wild haymaker on the temple.hurlock wrote:he'd of got ko'd :!: lolenga mock a mediocre 12st fighter had him down & sprawling round the ring like a 13yr old who's just bolted.Final round wrote:How would Haye have dealt with the RJJ who beat Ruiz
I would assume that when the question was asked, we are talking about the peak version of Haye now. Or maybe we could have Haye now, against RJJ 7 fights in?

Obviously! I was being sarcastic.
Haye I think.
Unlike Ruiz, I think he would have landed big at some point, and I don't think Roys beard would have stood up to it.

I know I thought I should just clarify.
Cheers
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Tough to say, not much in it IMO, but Haye'd obv be carrying alot more powerFinal round wrote:Chambers2 wrote:Haye would've took him out with the first good punch he landedFinal round wrote:How would Haye have dealt with the RJJ who beat Ruiz

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
I don't think it is that tough a question, surely Roy at HW was quicker than Haye.

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs David Haye
Not sure, he wasn't that fast at heavy, and Haye made Ruiz (albeit several years later), look every bit as slow.stujones wrote:I don't think it is that tough a question, surely Roy at HW was quicker than Haye.
Don't think the handspeed difference was much different at heavyweight.
