A question about earnings

At what level would a fighter need to be at before he could live entirely off his ring earnings without having a day job? Obviously world champions but what about British or European? Is it all down to how many tickets you can sell?

I would assume highly touted prospects would be the exception in being full time from the start. What about "opponent" types who fight every few weeks, do that have another job too?

id say its probably about 85% of domestic fighters that cant afford to live off their ring earnings alone ,

if someones a big ticket seller there unlikely to be needing to sell tickets for a living for too long as the promotor will see he can make money from them so he would tie them down to a cash contract , maybe with a bit from the tickets to supplement him , at the end of the day a promotor needs an income from the tickets to then pay for the fights , unless someone has got enough popularity to shift a few tickets on their name value alone without the fighter doing leg work , then their unlikely to live on ring earnings alone , what leel their fighting at is irrelivant , one fighter might be doing well , money wise with a record like 15 wins and 4 losses yet someone unbeaten after 30 fights could still not be earning , its the promotors job to make them a name and let their name sell tickets ( as long as the fighter does the business in the ring) , but lets face it , some fighters are just not able to shift tickets , they quite often end up being the ones who take fights last minutte etc as theirs no real benefit for the promotor to build them up etc.

Are you saying 85% of all domestic fighters or British titleists? Because I reckon that you'll probably find upto British level its more like 10% of fighters if that! All the fighters I know have to work in some sense. I certainly couldn't give up work and couldn't for a long while.

Really depends on the boxers just look at the british title fight against Smith and Degale Smith is the champion and i am told Degale is on 30 k more then Smith. and Smith is a massive tickets seller where Degale is not.

Depends of your situation I guess. Young boxer, with no commitments needs less money than a 30 year old with a family and a mortgage.
