Ringside by Budd Schullberg is in my opinion the best book ever written on boxing.

Rope Burns by Ian Probert is also entertaining.

The Kirkland Laing book is excellent as others have mentioned in previous topics.

The new biography on Tom Sharkey is a great read too. :box:

Don't be tempted to get the boxing almanac - it's littered with errors and inaccuracies and just plain odd/pointless additions/sections.

The Teddy Atlas book, think it's called A Son's Tale? Really should remember, easily the best boxing book I've read.

It's left field, but I recommend Stitch Durans book; From The Fields To The Garden. Although it's a UFC cutmans story, there's some great boxing stories in there before he moved to MMA.

Thanks for that, I'd missed that thread first time around.

I'd absolutely concur with those that recommended A.J. Liebling's "The Sweet Science" - the quality of the prose is fantastic (if you like that sort of thing).

Of other books mentioned over there - "Four Kings", "Hands Of Stone", "Unforgivable Blackness" and "King Of The World" also all get the seal of Russproval.

(Edit: Ooh ooh ooh - "The Fight", as well. Norman Mailer was an utter, utter nutter, but a loveable one).

I actually bought Audley's book a few months ago.
Got it for £0.01 with free shipping at Abebooks.co.uk.

What a bloody waste!
