Cardiff bill materialising
The Cardiff bill next Saturday, topped by Enzo Maccarinelli's WBU cruiserweight defence against South African Earl Morais and the cracking WBU welterweight showdown between Belfast bad boy Eamonn Magee and Brummie Jimmy Vincent, is starting to take shape.
Unbeaten super-featherweight Gavin Rees - awaiting a New Year WBU title shot - faces useful Midlander Carl Allen, while former European light-middleweight champion Wayne Alexander returns after almost a year out against fellow Londoner Delroy Mellis.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jamie Arthur goes for his sixth win in a row and WBC International heavyweight champion Denis Bakhtov also fights on the bill. Neither man's opponent has yet been finalised.
Dagenham featherweight Kevin Mitchell, with three stoppage wins to his name so far, appears.
Another ex-amateur star, Martin Concepcion, makes his pro debut.

I think Jimmy has a great chance. He's coming down to welter; Eamonn is moving up for the first time since 1990 (he boxed Robert McCracken at welter in the 1990 world amateur cup in Dublin, losing on points). I agree that Eamonn is the better boxer, and has never been stopped. So I feel the greater natural strength of Vincent will prevail by way of a tough points win. And I mean tough.steve689 wrote:A once falling apart bill is looking good after all, does anyone give Jimmy Vincent a chance against a polished veteran like Eamonn Magee? Jimmy is having a swansong at the moment but i think Eamonn's top level experience carries him through. Enzo has a new opponent? Lol must have missed that one.
I reckon "streaking" (as they say in the US!) Vincent has a pretty good shot - as usual it depends on what state Magee turns up in.steve689 wrote:, does anyone give Jimmy Vincent a chance against a polished veteran like Eamonn Magee?
Regardless of who you are - Jimmy Vincent is not the kind of guy to be fighting if you aren't fully prepared - and if the rumours that persist about Magee's training and discipline in camp (or supposed lack of) are true - Magee could come unstuck.
Vincent-Magee really depends which Magee turns up...
if the lazy bum turns up he will lose, but without the weight draining he may well be confident to put out a much higher workrate which will see him through...
I cannot see how you guys think Magee will win so easily.... I see it as being really close...

I've just read a ridiculous preview of the fight in the Belfast Telegraph by that joke boxing reporter, David Kelly. He's totally dismissive of Vincent. I've done my own preview of the fight for BN and have picked Vincent to win (nay, earn) a bruising battle on points. Yes, Magee is class (I like him; I think we all like him), but Vincent is a strong man and showed against Barnes he is no brawler. He has technique and power. Weight is the key factor in this fight in my opinion. Magee will make Vincent look slow at times as he fires off those quick southpaw combinations, but as the fight progresses, I see Vincent's greater natural strength and aggression forcing Magee into a bit of a shell (ala the Shea Neary fight) and his workrate will see him home. Mmmm. Be interesting to see whether the extra 7lbs hinder or help Magee. I think he may be stronger but still quick enough to outspeed and outbox Vincent. I rate Magee a much better fighter than the two Davids (Barnes and Walker) who the gypsy fought so well against and go for Magee on points or even a late stoppage.
No I mean Magee. We know Vincent will be throwing hard punches all night, so in order for Magee to win a (fair) decision he'll have to do more than just throw the odd counter punch. Vincent is certainly a stronger guy than Shea Neary or Hatton.Snatchy wrote:Dont you mean Vincent, Kilburn?Kilburn wrote:Magee better be in the mood to throw a lot of punches because he won't have much choice if he wants to get a (fair) decision.
You can bet Vincent is very confident going into this.
If Magee were a natural welter you'd have to make him a firm favourite, seeing how he's basically the completed version of what David Barnes will turn out to be (hopefully), albeit 7lbs smaller. But as it is it seems very unlikely that he can lay any significant hurt on Jimmy who's as tough as they come.
This is a very intriguing fight and I can't wait for it.
