TheWelterweight scene in Ghana is really bouncing! Another easy match for Brook. I want to see him in with Jennings again, because Jennings was giving him problems before the cut stopped it!

14 of his 21 wins came against guys that have never won a fight.Horse wrote:BoxRec has him ranked 522nd in the World at Light Middleweight.
He has never beaten anyone with more than 3 wins on their record.
Crackin stats on this guy.

RE jennings, Alex, I would respectfully suggest that I think you have it wrong. Jennings looked, to me, as though every time he got remotely caught he got a saucer-eyed desperate fear. and this is bearing in mind he hardly took any shots. his eyes widened considerably from a jab. god knows what kell's harder right hands would have done.
when you say troubling Brook, well he was moving so much that yeah Brook found it pretty difficult to really catch him. but how long before he couldn't move quite so much as he was early doors and had to stand his ground? on the hand's reverse side Brook wasn't at all troubled by the few pats he got off jennings.
Jennings started scared, and got scareder as the fight went on from where I was sitting.

oh, and RE this card, thank fvck for Smith - degale
Re: New opponent for Brook
bellew v mckenzie aswell
Re: New opponent for Brook
Matthew Hatton has beaten better fighters than Brook! Brook needs a proper fight, shame Jennings fight ended on cuts.
Re: New opponent for Brook
Ghana really is a stats nightmare. Records produced by the Ghana Boxing Authority aren't recognised by BoxRec in the main because they're a load of shite.slapbangwhallop wrote:14 of his 21 wins came against guys that have never won a fight.Horse wrote:BoxRec has him ranked 522nd in the World at Light Middleweight.![]()

Unfortunately, they're accepted by the BBBoC, I believe. Hence, GBA produces a record for a fighter which is then taken by a UK promoter as evidence of their suitability which covers them (the promoter). So, we've done stories before on utterly sh1te challengers from Ghana (listed here as 3-1 or something) only to be called by someone from the promoter saying 'He's 14-1, I've got a record here authenticated by the GBA'.
You just feel like saying, 'So f**king what?' but then we're left with another legal problem...
It's a poor match on a 'never mind the quality, feel the width' card.
To be fair though, the promoters did try and get that other fella over (Mike Jones?) and they went another route, even though they were offered more money to come to Britain.
Re: New opponent for Brook
Sheffield's exciting Kell Brook ticks over in a 12-rounder against Ghana's rugged Philip Kotey in Liverpool on December 11.
Brook, ranked No. 1 by the WBO, extended his unbeaten record to 22-0 (15) with a cuts win over Michael Jennings in five rounds in September, but regardless of his top ranking, the 24-year-old welterweight needs a few longer fights before he is ready for a world title shot. Heavy handed Kell has never travelled more than seven rounds.
Southpaw Kotey should fit the bill as a sturdy, seasoned fighter who can do the 12 rounds, having been outpointed by Namibia's unbeaten Bethuel Ushona in a 12-rounder in May, which serves as a decent yardstick. Kotey is good enough to take Brook all the way but not good enough to beat him.

To be fair - and it's not often that I stick up fr FW matchmaking - there was less than a fortnight to go before the fight so they're not likely to get anyone top-quality, and it's not Brook or Warren's fault that Jones pulled out.SweetLikeSugar wrote:Joke.

Fair enough. I was/am just pi$$ed off that the show that was supposedly going to be bigger and better than the Birmingham show has only got two decent match-ups.oliverfennell wrote:To be fair - and it's not often that I stick up fr FW matchmaking - there was less than a fortnight to go before the fight so they're not likely to get anyone top-quality, and it's not Brook or Warren's fault that Jones pulled out.SweetLikeSugar wrote:Joke.

Re: New opponent for Brook
Is it too much to ask for, as an opponent to KELL BROOK, an opponent who we have at least heard of?
I think not!
Crap match up. Pointless.

Re: New opponent for Brook
I think if this fight would have had more prominence on TV then a better opponent would have been found. If there was no Wlad/Chisora and Khan/Maidana on afterwards, Fwank would have found somebody with a better record than this fella. Brook v Jones was only going to be a small part of the night's boxing anway, Brook v Afrobum is now an even smaller one.
Re: New opponent for Brook
To 'pull out' you've got to agree to it in the first place. Did he? Gary Shaw says no.SweetLikeSugar wrote:Fair enough. As for Clark - also a poor opponent in my view - a British web journo said a while ago he wasn't coming - and he isn't.
Re: New opponent for Brook
The thing that annoys me is, i'm sure there are many british boxers ranked higher than this African geezer coming over, that would of jumped at the chance to face Brook in front of a large crowd.

Re: New opponent for Brook
Is there a bit of complacency from Mr Warren here?
I mean Khan v Maidana with its fairly decent undercard alongside Chisora v Wlad is already a decent night. Khan is PPV anyway, so this evening was always gonna be the same. So all Warren has to do is roll out his Mag 7 boys (Clev, Brook, Olympians), line up a decent domestic headline (Degale v Smith) and invite a bunch of no-marks over as opponents.
If the PPV buys are good, Warren can claim credit for putting together a devastating card of depth and quality; if they are bad, he did his best but the public weren't interested in a 3rd PPV in 5 weeks and Khan can't sell coal to a Geordie.
