Sadly I agree. The job of the promoter is to do just that - promote his fighter. This means getting his name out there and shoving it our faces until your grannies grandad knows who Carl Froch is. I mean look at Haye in the build up to the Harrison fight. He was everywhere. Granted that fight was in the UK but even the Valuev fight had everyone and their uncle talking about it. For a big fight I usually receive loads of calls and texts asking "whose gonna win the fight?" For Froch-Abraham, a battle between two genuine world level operators, I got a massive ZERO messages/calls regarding the fight.

Edit: Thinking about it, a little of the blame does lie with Froch's character too. He seems like a good bloke but he lacks the charisma of Haye or dare I say, an Audley Harrison.

To be fair to Mick, if ITV hadn't pulled the plug on boxing everyone of froch's super 6 fights would have prob been on there. The pascal fight was and I think the Taylor fight was on the next day. Still it's no excuse for not getting him better coverage

Must be so frustrating for froch, especially after Hayes last money spinning farce

They interviewed him in the studio this morning on BBC Breakfast. Couldn't believe they had him on to be honest. He came across really well.

Don't think we can really blame Mick here Mark, he (and so Frochy, Darren, Tyson, Murray) was a victim of the ITV budget cut. Mick went from an immensely strong postition, with the biggest TV platform out there, to a weak one overnight and all to do with the fact that ITV, as a whole, showed a massive loss that year and they dropped boxing like a ton of bricks.

So Mick's just delivered the fight of the year (Froch-Pascal) to ITV, but through no fault of his own they drop boxing. He then has to go around trying to find another TV outlet, but while he's been with ITV the other promoters have established themselves with Sky and there's no way in for him. So he takes the best available option for Froch, Primetime. But it's PPV and therefore limited. But he's got a big name on his books and he's got to pay him. It's not as though he could pay Carl Froch by taking the show to Eurosport, as Hatton have done with their 'B' promotions. We're talking proper money and that's hard to come by.

I genuinely think Mick has done as best he can for his fighters, but he's been a victim of circumstance. We all know what life's like, sometimes things don't go to plan. And Mick had a good plan, it just went wrong.

Of course Frochy should be a massive star, and he would have been had he continued fighting on ITV. But they dropped boxing, and that was nothing to do with Carl or Mick. Just bloody bad luck mate.

Yes ok. But where was Froch during the buildup, there were absolutely zero media appearances. He should have been here there and everywhere, but the only place that seemed to carry news of his impending fight was primetime itself.

Yes mick is a victim of circumstance, but then I guess you need to ask yourself whether the decision to have an exclusive deal with ITV was a good one? If the exposure was so great on ITV, then how come Froch seems virtually invisible.

I dont see this post as relevant.
What really matters is the fact that (I believe) he has been blacklisted because of insider dealings.
If Tyson came to Sky and wanted to comeback in Britain they would be sucking on his balls to get him on PPV, all this "we dont have the budget" stuff is pure crappola
I believe Froch could do great if hyped up on Sky/BBC/ITV etc etc..

This situation stinks and nothing will convince me otherwise.

but Jon you think it's Froch or Hennesy that is being black listed?
I think that if Froch was with a certain other promoter he would be on ASAP so I guess the answer is both Mark.

It's so obvious, I honestly can't believe everyone can't see this.

Why limit it to one promoter Jon? Sky have deals with four. If Froch were with one of the other three promoters (choose your configuration), do you think Sky would not sign him then?

Bottom line to me is that Hennessy is not one of those promoters. Why? Because at the time those deals were being established (if not signed), Hennessy was with ITV and then found himself out in the cold.

Of course it's relevant! If Froch is going to be fighting on the wilderness of Primetime, then you need to promote the hell out of the fight in the runup. Why did this not happen?

Think you're underplaying the importance of an interested media james. As we all know, boxing stank for a week after Haye-Harrison. It ponged. They wouldn't have touched it with a bargepole. It's not as though anyone is in a position to demand TV time, they have to want to give it. And they didn't want to. And when they're in that mood, you can't change their minds no matter how hard you try. You can't burst into TV stations, take over their cameras, and broadcast yourself. They have the power, not you.

Yes Glyn, that is true of course, however, those arrangements should have been made many weeks ago, even months before , the publicity campaign starts when the fight was first announced, which would have been a long time before Haye v Harrison. I don't see why the media are going to tar Froch with the same brush as Haye anyway, Haye doesn't act as a spokesman for the entire sport in this country.

I don't think that argument holds up, are you suggesting all the arrangements for TV apperarances were made, and that they were all cancelled due to Haye v Harrison, or that they were never made, or they were attempted, but fell flat? Surely more could have been done to raise Froch's profile prior to the fight? This was a massive fight, I find it hard to believe more could not have been done.

Maybe people just don't but into Froch in the way they have done with Haye, and bizzarely Harrison.

unusually I felt that the BBC have covered the fight quite well. Their website has got quite alot on it and it's been on various BBC's news programmes and on the radio, shame he hasn't received more press on boxing friendly media.

BIGMARK wrote:Like many i felt sad that Froch this weekend seems once again to have slipped under the mainstream media radar. It was interesting today that on Talksport's News half hourly sports round up they mentioned Kell Brook's change of foe for Dec 11 yet 24 hours earlier hadnt mentioned the Froch victory. Now i only listen to Talksport on sunday afternoon for a couple of hours (so maybe it was covered early) but it did seem strange this wasnt considered news which was also the case on Sky News on sunday morning (not sure about Sky sports news).

So who's fault is this? It is all to easy to lay the blame at the feet of Meaty Mick but it seems there is no other answer. Obiviously allegedly has a good press relationship with Talksport as he gets a fair bit of air time with fighters often being interviewed or mentioned, so why isnt Mick doing the same?

On H&J on Talksport this afternoon they talked about Froch's lack of TV coverage and Gareth H Davies from the telegraph was on. He, like us voiced a fustration with the lack of coverage for Froch yet did say that Adam Smith had plans to try and get him on Sky next year.

I admire Froch being loyal to Meaty Mick but there has to be a point when he needs to maximise his earnings for last couple of years in the sport and as nice a bloke as Mick is he doesnt seem to be the right man.
Mick done a good job as a manager but he has not promoted him well.

I agree with glyn, I think at the time Froch and Hennesey thought they had the Ace card with ITV, while the other promoters where lining up deals with sky.

Froch and Hennesey didn't see the ITV collapse coming and where left out in the cold, at this point Carl hadn't accomplished what he has since gone onto, and none of us really thought he would including SKY, hence not signing him up then when they had 3 deals with other promoters...

However in hindsight I bet sky are kicking themselves, all be it too late. I'm sure they along with many other people feel he is coming to the end of he's career and don't see the longevity in signing him now...

Although the complete shut out from all other media is unexplainable... someone somewhere is shutting him out but why?

The tabloid press coverage was not bad at all.The Mirror gave it a lot of coverage in the week leading up to the fight and a full page on the Monday afterwards.

Definitely James's points hold water, it's not that I disagree with them - they make sense and he makes them well. But you have to look at the TV climate as well. TV/Radio would not have been talking about boxing at that point. There's always an anti-reaction after a big fight letdown. It would have been a very hard sell to get any air time, booked or otherwise.

Bottom line is it's absolutely shocking that Frochy doesn't get his dues, but there have been a lot of contributory factors, not all in his or Hennessy's control. Hopefully it improves for them.

pascal, taylor, dirrell, kessler and abraham.

jc never had a run like that...tho i expect he has far more exposure, name recognition and far more money.

Nobody is arguing about the matches made, they're fantastic, what we want to see, it's the lack of promotion on Hennessy's behalf, his job is to promote his product and he's not doing it.
