Frank W Biography/Autobiography?

Post by nh1 »

I'd like to read more about him, but does anybody know whether there is currently a biography or autobiography available?

A search of Amazon was (almost) fruitless: the title 'Being Frank: The Autobiography of allegedly by allegedly and Roy Collins' is listed as unavailable. (Why? Were there libel issues?)
And there's 'Lords of the Ring: Marsh, Warren and the Business of Boxing by Harry Lansdown and Alex Spillius', which is available second-hand.

Thanks for any advice or recommendations people may be able to provide.

The older book by Lansdowne and Spillius is interesting to a point, but really its no more than a load of unsubstantiated hearsay thrown together.

Ive got a copy in my loft somewhere.

I seem to recall that Mr Warren ttook legal action and won, so the book was removed from the shelves.

Anyone confirm?

When I lived in London 10 years ago I used to visit SportsPages book shop quite a lot and for a few months they were promoting a allegedly autobiography that was due to be released. It never came out and when I asked why they said it was to do with legal issues.

Yep I bet Frank has a great story to tell he's seen the lot...problem is can he tell it without settling scores as he does it in his Sun column on a regular basis.

I have a copy of "Lords of the ring".I bet Fwanks legal team had an absolute field day with that one.Its also very, very out of date and concludes with Fwank basically going nowhere, and this was the early nineties! He has acheived enough to fill two books since that one ended!

Thanks for your replies...Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer until either Frank's in his dotage and tells things for himself, or until someone brave comes along who'll tell it for him and has no fear of lawyers!

That book has been coming out since Kell Brook was a 6 rounder. I bet it's sh!t as well. He won't spill the beans. It'll be every thing we saw on his BT documentary but in greater detail.

I do hope on the back of the book they carry quotes from the judge's comments about his dishonesty in the Calzaghe case

And I think this builder should write the foreword https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... 5-000.html

I used to love the autobiographies back in the day. Never buy them now. Too much sugar coating. The Jimmy Tibbs one seemed promising. I flicked through it in Waterstones. Not much about the gangland/prison stuff. Dissapointing. FWs will be the same.

An honest Tibbs one would be great.

If you want an honest account of half the trainers in boxing, just read Operation Tiberius' report

definitely, so interesting to read. The amount of boxing people in it - Bowers, Tibbs, Sims. We all think of Sims as a gent in boxing, he's done time for throwing ammonia in a police officer's face! That may be before he found god though and we've all got a past, it just seemed a bit/very....extreme.
