don't see this fight happening. Byrd knows nothing about the rumours coming from the Hide camp, and simply laughed off the idea stating that he found it 'very funny'.
Byrd is the 33 year old IBF champion and Herbie recently said that he would be opposing him rather than fighting British rival Danny Williams.
Although Byrd has said he'll fight anyone in the heavyweight division and all they have to do is contact Don King, he claimed he had no idea Hide seriously thought he had a chance of a shot.
Which begs the question, if an IBF title shot is hard to pull off, why didn't Hide just fight Williams in December as planned?

Probably because Herbie had no intentions to fight Williams in the first place, i honestly thought he would fight Williams myself but after all the hype surrounding his return to the ring it all seems to have lulled into an anti climax of late. Hide looked decent too beating reasonable comeback fodder in McCafferty, Vasiliev and the revenge win over Chingangu he attacked the body well and looked as sharp as ever. He needs a biggish fight to reignite the interest again for me, he has gone into Audley mode and hidden away for a while.

lol! herbie was dreaming with that one.
HOW would HBO sell that fight?
last time herbie fought in america he was butchered by bowe- AND that was 8 years ago!
2 fights ago he was knocked out in 2 rds by a journeyman!!!
the last fighter of any merit he fought was 4 yrs ago and waxed him easily in 2 rds.
in a 15 year career he has never beaten a ranked heavyweight.
WHAT A PEDIGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, impossible to sell but if it were actually to happen it could make for an interesting contest. herbie's got a glass chin but surely the flapping bird with his open gloves wouldn't KO him? herbie can punch big and is quick...
hmmm, not too sure. byrd would possibly get an accumulation stoppage over the chinly challenged one.

The best thing about Herbie Hide is his Flip-top head.
Talk about Wide Mouth Frog - his teeth seeem to start behind his ears and when his mouth opens his whole head flips open - not unlike Zippy from Rainbow - Do you think this has affected his ability to absorb punishment?
If so I say put him in training with the Cookie Monster or Oscar the Grouch - they too have the flip-top head but no history of early stoppages - Oscar could certainly help with the attitude.

hehe
anyway, byrd by KO inside 6 rds. herbie would have a hard time hitting byrd with anything with those wild telegraphed punches, and byrd would realise pretty quickly that the man infront of him had little to know punch resistence.
will never happen though. bring on danny williams and herbie hide, herbie cant compete with the tough boys in world class.

I don't care how bad Hide is compared to Byrd - after his dismal showing and dubious win vs. Oquendo, Byrd doesn't have the right to laugh at anyone.
(Except maybe at the people who thought he actually deserved the decision against Oquendo.)
I still remember Byrd standing up at the post-Lewis/Vitali press conference and saying "C'mon Lennox, you looked like crap in there..."
Funny how what goes around comes around.
