Ricky Hatton "Retired"
I heard Ricky Hatton saying he was retired tonight on Celebrity Cube on ITV1. Maybe I've not spent enough time on here only coming on everyday because I don't remember seeing a piece or a thread saying he had announced his retirement. Did he? ![[icon_e_confused.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)
Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
maybe he did, maybe he didn't....who gives a sh*t? He won't get a licence back anyway and if he does it's only cos he can afford one.
or to rephrase that, it would only be because you could buy one of the good ol' BBBoC.

Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
he ended his career the wrong way imo - he should have taken a pick em fairwell fight.
Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
I disagree. His punch resistance seemed to have gone and why risk tarnishing a decent record by getting beat by a nobody.kingfinn wrote:he ended his career the wrong way imo - he should have taken a pick em fairwell fight.
It would be a lose lose fight for him in my opinion and he certainly doesn't need the money just to receive the adulation of his fans one last time.
Personally, I think he should stick to the after dinner speeches and his, ahem, witty one liners.

People who have done a million times worse than Ricky have been re-licensed.He would get it back, and rightly so after serving a suspension.NorthEastBoxingFan wrote:maybe he did, maybe he didn't....who gives a sh*t? He won't get a licence back anyway and if he does it's only cos he can afford one.

x2 seen him the other week looked in great shape
Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
Why should he fight again?
he has made a fortune and wasnt exactly the best fighter in the world.
He should concentrate on making life work after boxing.

Yeah, I suppose he is retired, and has been for a while.

I thought he might be tempted to fight JMM or have a Mayweather rematch.Crease wrote:Yeah, I suppose he is retired, and has been for a while.

If he fought Mayweather in a rematch, it would only be for Financial gain, nothing else. Ricky, more than anyone, knows he would have virtually no chance in a rematch against Floyd!kingfinn wrote:I thought he might be tempted to fight JMM or have a Mayweather rematch.Crease wrote:Yeah, I suppose he is retired, and has been for a while.

JMM would beat Hatton at this stage of their careers!
Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
I hope he enjoys his retirement though the only fight I'd like to see him in is v Junior Witter. I am aware that there is a bout mooted between Matthew H and Junior I really think the better bout would be Ricky v Witter. It would still sell out, Hatton would have a better chance of closing on a W and Junior would get a very good payday to round his career off with. Everyones a winner!
Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
I think if hatton had fought JMM straight after the pac loss instead of taking semi / provisional retirement - he would have won. Not down to boxing skills but the power differencial, haton out gunned JMM who doesnt carry his power in the higher weights.Rocky Balboa wrote:If he fought Mayweather in a rematch, it would only be for Financial gain, nothing else. I dont think he would have beat floyd but i think with fair reffing we would have seen a good fight and hatton would have likely gone the distance. Mosley fell apart when he fought PBF, hatton didnt, he lost his head after being stopped from fighting on the inside then being deducted (unfairly) a point. Straight after he had the point deducted he went out pissed off and got nailed 3 times by floyd and was finished from that point on.
Hatton didnt need to win a rematch he just needed the chance to get a fair fight.
Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
You must be having a laugh. Ray Hatton could've reffed the fight and Mayweather would still have stopped him. PBF is several leagues above Hatton I'm afraid. In spite of that I do agree that Hatton acquitted himself far better than Marquez or Mosley did. Hatton was a great 140 pounder and at his peak would have beaten all of the current crop, including Khan.
Re: Ricky Hatton "Retired"
I've heard loads of people say hatton would have never made it the distance in any fight against floyd BUT he didnt get stopped until half way through round 10 in the original. if he had been allowed to fight on the inside, he would have taken alot less punches and lasted the distance imo, loosing on a decent points margin but still being able to go back down to jr welter saying he gave an elite fighter and bigger man a good fight.Trojans44 wrote:You must be having a laugh. The pac loss (although we all know pac is absolute elite) could have been shrugged off, he didnt get a sustained beating, roach had a plan and pac executed it and a fighter will still believe they had a bad night after 1 flash ko. It was being ko'd by two of the top fighters that psychologically finished hatton.
