I saw it on TV for the 1st time and they were great fights. It was Miami vs Memphis.
Results:
54 KGS Ernesto Garza MEM bt Paulo Carvalho 2-1
61 KGS Leonid Malkov MIA bt Elian Dimitrov TKO
73 KGS William Williams MIA bt Terrell Gausha 2-1
85 KGS Sijuola Shabazz MIA bt Robert Brant 3-0
+91 KGS Donovan Dennis MIA bt Danny Calhoun KO
The Ukrainian Malkov looked sharp and the KO in the heavyweight fight was nasty. The guy who got KO'd played college football at Cincinnati. The 85 kgs Shabazz and Brant had fought before in the finals of I think the US Championships with the result going the other way this time.
The fights were way better than any club pro show I have seen. They box 5 rounds and they fight at a good pace. Lots of action.
Anybody watching the WSB?
Re: Anybody watching the WSB?
I posted this on the current scene to hear what fans of mostly pro boxing thought of the WSB and the mods moved it here to the amateur section. I know what you all have said about the WSB. Oh well I'll probably delete the thread if it doesn't get moved back.
Re: Anybody watching the WSB?
Jim - you have the right idea to see what pro boxing fans think about the WSB. I know I am a fan of both amateur and pro boxing and I really like watching the WSB bouts. If the WSB can get pro-only boxing fans to watch the WSB matches, I think those fans will like it. I have yet to see any boring bouts in the WSB matches whereas when I watch "regular" pro boxing on TV I will see a boring bout occasionally. I think the WSB bouts are better than the vast majority of bouts at regular pro boxing shows.
Re: Anybody watching the WSB?
I stopped going to club pro shows because they are so boring. I also don't like good amateurs coming out to the pros and fighting endless bums to build up their record. One loss sets them back like what happened to Danny Jacobs. It seems that in the WSB a loss is not that big of a deal like in MMA which is the only thing I like about MMA. Big name fighters can lose and get another big fight in the near future as long as they are a high level fighter.Dennis wrote: I have yet to see any boring bouts in the WSB matches whereas when I watch "regular" pro boxing on TV I will see a boring bout occasionally. The WSB is a great way to season future world pro champs and what I saw so far looked exciting.
Re: Anybody watching the WSB?
I don't think a loss should end a pro boxers career. In all other sports, it is very rare to be undefeated especially after several years in the sport. Sometimes a loss shows that a boxer isn't at the same level as the top few boxers in the weight division. Other times, they had an off night or just got caught. An example is Paul Williams. He got caught, but I for one want to see him again and I don't care if he has two losses now.
Another example is Manny Pacquiao. No one cares that he has 2 draws and 2 losses on his record. That is the way it should be.
