I'd prefer this to Peterson, It would be a good contrast of styles and McCloskey would be well up for it.

Amir v Paul would be a classic and one i think Amir may struggle in,styles make fights

Khan put on twitter yesterday that Peterson was overpricing himself. Would rather see this anyway

No chance of this fight being made IMO. McCloskey is a relative unknown in the US, where Khan is hoping to make a name for himself.

Yeah, imagine Sky bumping Wlad Vs Haye for this fight.That would be absolutly scandalous.

Did Khan put McCloskey's name forward, or did the interviewer mention it and Khan say that it was a fight he would welcome? Cause they are two totally different things. Khan will be after the winner of Alexander/Bradley, surely.

Khan, McCloskey and Sky would all be happy with this. HBO no way - and that would be the decider

I like this fight McCloskey could be a very tricky customer for Khan.

HBO seemingly the only stumbling block at the moment.

A good match, and as someone said it would be more entertaining that Khan - Peterson.

We can only hope this match can be made.

I like it, loving the fact the yanks on other forums haven't got a clue about the guy

Khan will fight the winner of these two after this in July(ish) I would imagine and, almost certainly, in America.

He wanted one in the UK first with a name known to UK fight fans (Katsidis was mooted) and thus McCloskey fits the bill.

sky surely wont put this as a ppv , it does not merit a ppv fight

sky chose khan over a haye vs klitschko fight and now it looks like hes fighting a guy who isnt even world class

this by no means an easy fight for khan if it goes ahead. although it's big step up for mccloskey if khan takes it too lightly mccloskey definitely has the beating of him. I have seen mccloskey live 5 or 6 times and even in the early days when he was fighting down the bill he stood as being a top class fighter. He tends to fight with his guard down too much which would be suicide against someone with the speed of khan. however he is a very quick, stylish fighter himself.

he also takes a good punch and seems to have developed more power in his last few fights ending them all inside the distance (don't be deceived by the 12 stoppages out of 22 fights record amir!). anyone who saw mccloskey's knock out of Giuseppe Lauri will know that he can punch (although this was actually one his worst performances)

potentially a good matchup, probably adds a couple of thousand onto the gate too

I work with a guy who is related to McCloskey and he told me about this this morning. They are very excited about this fight and Paul fancies his chances.

As previously mention Paul has the dig to hurt Khan. I can see him causing Khan trouble with his uppercut (Naz style) if Khan goes looking for him.

A potentially good contest. I have been impressed with Paul McCloskey, without really knowing how good he could be.

Given Khan's promotional arrangements, it's hard to see how they could build a decent undercard to support a PPV though, if the fight was to take place in the UK ?

Talk is that Amir Khan - the twit who Twits - may now defend his WBA light-welterweight title against Ireland's unheralded Paul McCloskey here on April 16.
Khan was lined up to defend on the night against Lamont Peterson, a solid American with plenty of balls, but Peterson wants a ton of money after years of poverty, so Khan and his team are considering McCloskey, a strong, clever southpaw from Dungiven in Northern Ireland unbeaten in 22 fights.
McCloskey holds the European light-welterweight belt and is currently training to defend against Italy's Michele Di Rocco in Belfast on March 5. He can fight and he is ready to fight but his last four opponents read Dean Harrison, Barry Morrison, Giuseppe Lauri and Daniel Rasilla, and you read Dmitriy Salita, Paulie Malignaggi, Marcos Maidana and Andreas Kotelnik for Khan. Oh! A longer look at their records tells you that the temperamental Colin Lynes is the best man McCloskey has beaten as a pro; Khan holds a win over Marco Antonio Barrera.
People forget also that, for all his amateur exploits, McCloskey failed to make the Athens Olympics in 2004 where Khan made his name with a glittering silver medal at the tender age of 17. Still only 24, Khan is a whopping seven years younger than the McCloskey and much stronger at the weight than the burly challenger, who struggles to boil down to 10 stone.
All in all, McCloskey cannot compare to Khan, who has improved immensely over the last 18 months and makes his first appearance here since blasting the previously unbeaten Salita in 76 seconds in Newcastle in 2009. We can expect the homecoming Bolton boy to prevail in seven or eight rounds this time.

More than that,mate.McCloskey has a good following and there are a lot of Irish in Manchester.I would guess McCloskey would have greater.or certainly louder support on the night.

Yeah that was ridiculous but at least De La Hoya Pacman was included in the package.

As much as I think this would be a good fight for Khan and a good watch, there is no way in hell I would pay £15 for this unless there was a stacked undercard
