5. I don't want to make any excuses, but....

7. You need a knockout to get a draw over there.

10. I just didn't feel right in there, I couldn't get my punches off..

There are loads of cliche's that are used in everyday language that have boxing roots. "Up to scratch" being probably the most famous.

A candidate for fight of the year.
He's a real throwback fighter.
This could be the biggest upset in boxing history (McKenzie take note)
A real granite chin.
Teak-tough.
This tough little mexican.
He went to the well one time too many.
This could be the end of the line for.....
but Has he done enough.
but has he left it too late/too little, too late.
Of course, that's just our scorecard....
I take nothing away from X, but......

"The Championship Rounds"

This refers (in my understanding) to rounds 12-15 - ie what used to be the "extra" rounds denoting a championship.

I love it when they use it these days as it implies that (at some point) there will be a further few rounds - presumably behind closed doors a la Rocky and Apollo

Ali started that old championship rounds saying - usually from 11-15, so today's commentators can say it from 11.

Is this the all time classic cliche "Saved by the bell".

2 overused boxing forum cliches are the terms:

"Schooled" and "Exposed".

You never hear of a Tennis player getting "exposed" or a snooker player getting "schooled", but on the boxing forums, you hear it twice a day, every day.
