Smigga back down to Middleweight

Post by Josh1111 »

He's apparently announced it on his twitter page.
Does he have a chance in with Macklin, Barker and Murray?

Good fights I think with all three. He has a chance, I think he would start as underdog in 2 of them - maybe slight favourite with young Murray at this stage.

And no, that's not because I am a "nuthugger" who thinks Smith is the next Bernard Hopkins - just Barker and Macklin haven't exactly proved them selves beyond European level either.

If he's strong at 160, I like it. Smigga would be a good addition to the mix.

I don't know why its been one of THE domestic fights I've always wanted to see - Smigga vs Barker.

He'll be strong at 160 I think, I think this could be the making of him. Hopefully, the power that was hyped up so much on the contender will return - cause one of the things that dissapointed me with the British title reign was his inability to make much of a dent on Quigley and Dodson - two fighters who have been hurt and put down in the past.

I don't think his inabilty to stop fighters was down to weight issues, I think he's just one of those fighters who can't reproduce his gym form in the ring. Whether that's through tensing/stiffening up too much, I don't know, but enough people have vouched for his power in sparring for it not to be a myth.

Barker beats Smigga with relative ease on points. I can't see how Smith would win - I really can't.

Its nice that we have four relatively top quality middleweights now - five if you include Craig McEwan - as well as a couple of real prospects coming through.

For me, Barker is the pick - Macklin is entertaining but too easily drawn into things, Murray as yet unproven at the top level and Smigga...well, its hard to know where he is going to present himself at this stage. Certainly think a fight vs Macklin would be worth the ticket money.

Barker has struggled against pressure fighters in the past. Smigga can pile it on at middle, and has proved he can hit at the weight. And he has underrated boxing ability. I think he will prove to be more than competitive at middle, and will probably upset the apple cart

i think smith has found out that you just cant be tough & just bull fwd.both him & macklin adopted that hatton style & smith is still shaking it off. but i firmly believe that by fighting the bigger lads over 12rds would have added finesse to his armour.

He's had a good learning curve. Took shots from bigger men and not disgraced himself, and held the British. Being at middle will add some speed, and he will be fighting men of his size. Agree re the hatton/Manchester style though. There does seem to be a lot more smigga can bring to the table. Looking forward to seeing his progress going forward. I think he could be at least top dog domestically, and challenge for euro, and then bide his tome for a crack at some version of a world title.

Nice, good move Smigga. I'm sure he'll do well at Middle. What the hell was he doing at Super Middle anyway?

Barker is best of the bunch in my eyes...He will play with Smith&totally outbox him..I think Murray would also beat him in a good fight.Smith has his best chance against Macklin, but Macklin should have enough to beat him....

Be nice is done of the fights were made though.
I just dint think barker will school anyone though. In many peoples eyes he was lucky against the French chap he fought for the euro. He was put under untold pressure and didn't like it. It knocked his boxing pattern and he looked very uncomfortable.
In all fairness this happened a bit to smigga against degale, but he was out of his weight class and fighting someone who is probably already genuine world class.
Styles make fights though and it would be a good one

smith should stay away from southpaws :!: many decent fighters have in the past.

smith is young & has plenty of time. im sure he'll get a nice fight back then look at a commonwealth or english before looking straight at the british champion who'd of vacated or be ripe & then who know's.

Good career move (personally always thought he should have stuck at 11st 6lbs anyway)..... but I don't fancy his chances of beating Barker or Macklin.

How many more times!!!!

Smigga is a bloody brave warrior who is also a top man - but - he is a very good domestic class boxer - he has done nothing to prove otherwise.

Taking advantage of the weak Super Middleweight domestic scene.
