Lomax is a very decent and pretty active welter; hope it's on. A different match up altogether.

Good lad Lomax, decent enough fighter on his day. Not great but if it keeps the show on then it's fair enough.

I was going to suggest Lomax as a good late replacement.

Lomax is a proper Welterweight and was training to fight a good opponent on the same night, so this is possibly a better fight than the Cook fight, considering the circumstances.

cant see why sky dont accept it apart from being fed up with being messed about, i feel very sorry for gavin. if this fight comes off against lomax it could be the best of the lot, his 6ft, a southpaw, in shape and mixed it with good company. good luck yet again frankie :TU:

Yeah, I'm happy with this, but I'll be surprised to see Gav look good, but unless you get rid of Lomax early then he'll do that to you. I still expect Gavin to win but I think it'll be a 118-110. Good luck, Frankie.

Good replacement fight if this comes off.

Wouldn't of minded Dean Harrison getting his chance to fight Gavin again though (after the injury from Dec) as imo he's about the same level as Lomax, but he's fighting in Vegas on the Montiel bill.

Good match-Lomax has been around forever and will likely give Gavin a bit of a test.

Frankie Gavin always stood out. The slick, counterpunching southpaw from Birmingham boxed with a smile on his face as he went all the way to gold at the world amateur championships in the States in 2007 and a showdown with Mario Kindelan before one Amir Khan made his name beating the same man.
A pro since February 2009, "Funtime" Frankie has raced to the Irish light-welterweight title and a record of 8-0 (7) but he hasn't been smiling much this week as intended opponents fell out like skittles. This Saturday at York Hall, Frankie finally gets a match against Michael Lomax, a tall Essex southpaw who won an ABA title back in 2002 but who still has a lot of the amateur in him at 32. He's a lovely man, very game, and he won't let Gavin rest in there, but he's scrappy and lacks a big punch. Lomax won Prizefighter in 2008 and challenged Kell Brook for the British welterweight title a year later in Manchester and was outgunned and stopped in three rounds, although Brook can really whack.
Since then, Lomax has won two out of three to make it 17-3-1 (2) as a pro. He enjoys natural weight on Gavin but the 25-year-old Gavin has been filling out rapidly and his brawn should not be underestimated alongside his boxing brain, his natural speed and ability.
Gavin looks likely to box and punch his way to a smart decision.

Didn't Khan fight Kindelan at the 2004 olympics? Does 2004 come before 2007? Or did frankie fight Kindelan prior to the 2004 olympics and i've completely misread what you said?

Wikipedia confirms my sanity! Frankie never fought Kindelan at the 2007 Worlds - he beat Omar Ward, Merey Akshalov, Ramal Amanov, Onur Sipal and Alexei Tischenko before beating Domenico Valentino in the final. And I have an inkling that this was the worlds that Cuba didn't send a team to (or only a skeleton team) - someone with better memory than I can confirm of rebut this.

Cuba did not send a team to the 2007 worlds. Gavin fought Kindelan in a 2005 GB-Cuba dual .
