ricky burns and steve foster jnr
ricky burns and steve foster jnr
fighting within 3 weeks of each other
could this be their next fight if they get past their respective opponents on saturday and on the 12th march???
for ricky burns this means no ibf fight with fana as the wbo will demand he makes a mandatory fight before the end of september.
if ricky burns fights fana after he beat laryea then it makes sense all round...summer outdoor fight , big purse and another title if he wins
thoughts??

If we get past 12th march, i hope Rickys next fight will be against Fana outdoors in June.

What sort of venue? One of the Scottish football stadiums?billy nelson wrote:If we get past 12th march, i hope Rickys next fight will be against Fana outdoors in June.

Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
If he gets past Laryea then he has had two fairly easy defences so I would like to see him go in with another world champ (preferably Fana) or a credible opponent, fair enough two easyish defences IMO
Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
ibrox is a great venue , parkhead is a dump
showing my colours here lol
well ricky is a celtic fan so im sure if it could be done then a fight at parkhead with the ring near one of the corners would be massive for scottish boxing

Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr

Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
Bloody risky doing an outside event in Scotland
Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr

They done tyson vs saverese at hampden, cant remember how busy it was? and do a lot fo concerts there aswell, but like u say weather always goin to be a issue.
Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
billy the fans would still come if its at ibrox or parkhead....the shape of both stadiums make the fight easy to happen as the ring can be put near a corner.
im not being biased in saying rangers stadium as they have the screens right above the corner which can help too.
hampden like the tyson fight would need to be in the middle of the ring due to the huge spaces behind each goal
has there been any other venue mentioned billy???

there was just over 17k there....it was a birthday present for me lol...£150 quid and i could have got a ticket for £30 and sat in the same place
Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
I think Foster Jnr would be a more dangerous fight than Fana actually - Fana whilst ranked #1 on here, he is a bit like the Carlos Maussa of world champions.
I would still be very chuffed to see Burns unify with Fana.

keep it local for rickster billy - sure the overheards at cliftonhill will be low for warren!bigped wrote:Is hampden too big for it billy??? if so partick thistle stadium it isbilly nelson wrote:the fight wouldnt go to eithier of the old firm stadiums,we want the whole of scotland and the uk behind burns.

Match Foster with Fana- who he'd beat. Would be a great fight IMO.
Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
I see Burns mentioned the Excelsior Stadium (Airdrie United), 10k capacity (although he says 15, which is presumably seats set up on the pitch?). Anyone been there?

Agreed.Jeff Thomas wrote:Match Foster with Fana- who he'd beat. Would be a great fight IMO.
I believe Foster has a great chance of beating Fana should the fight ever be made.
I remember being 13 and being at Cov when Dean Pithie showed him the way home.
Okay, so the South African has improved now but Foster is strong at the weight and can box a bit too.
Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
I would like to see Fana fighting away from his homeland and away from the likes of Klassen before making judgements on how much he is improved.Podmore_Birmingham wrote:Agreed.Jeff Thomas wrote:Match Foster with Fana- who he'd beat. Would be a great fight IMO.

He's in his late 30's also. Think the likes of Crolla could be gunning for him also, maybe even Johannsson.

Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
Small stadium like the excelsior would be ideal for size as it could probably be filled and would create an atmosphere but being in Airdrie could be a problem. Need a big city to get people from far away interested
Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
The airdrie stadium is a great shout because of the size but more importantly its not too far from rickys home town of coatbridge
Really top idea
Ps..its very easy to get to airdrie by train as there is a direct line that runs through glasgow city centre from many areas

You're right, of course. That IBF has been bouncing around South Africa for a good four years now.stujones wrote:I would like to see Fana fighting away from his homeland and away from the likes of Klassen before making judgements on how much he is improved.

Re: ricky burns and steve foster jnr
foster v burns would be a way better style matchup and would be a great fight for the british fans. i think foster will probably have to become the top WBO contender, though. it's one of those fights that, if they both had the same promoter, everybody involved would be saying what a "natural" matchup it is, but which instead gets downplayed.stujones wrote:I think Foster Jnr would be a more dangerous fight than Fana actually - Fana whilst ranked #1 on here, he is a bit like the Carlos Maussa of world champions.

that said, can't complain if burns - whom few expected to even feature in a world title fight, never mind win one - faces 2 world champs (WBO martinez, IBF fana) in the space of a year or so.
fana is notorious for the flop against barrera, but is regarded in the top 2 or 3 at the weight currently, so i suppose now is as good a time as any to unify with the south african, which would get the winner the ring magazine title.
