Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
Obviously us anoraks have a massive interest in the undercard but as things stand we are seeing the two main fights and that's it.
Would it be a good idea for Sky to do what ITV did when they made their return to boxing....namely just show what happened in the other fights, be it a knockout or the points win, coupled with a brief review??
I for one would love it and I'm sure I'm not the only one!! Ed???

Yes, I like that Keirney!!
Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
I used to really enjoy the ITV coverage. They'd start on ITV4 at 7ish with a bit of a review show and undercard fights before switching to the main events at 9/10ish. I think the build up side of things really helps you enjoy the main event when it finally comes round.

A quick recap of all the results from the undercard at the end of the show would be very nice. Doesn't have to take no longer than 1-2 minutes.

That would be great if they could start earlier on another channel to get more of the undercard and buildup!

Do remember them having a rolling info bar at the bottom of the screen giving all the nights other results sometime last season I think, but they only did it once or twice.Neri wrote:A quick recap of all the results from the undercard at the end of the show would be very nice. Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
Not sure they even need the extra time or separate channel coverage, they could free up a good 15 minutes per show by cutting down on the constant self promotion of "what's coming up".... I'd have rather seen some highlights of the Murray and Dallas fights than hearing about future Sky shows that they've already mentioned repeatedly during the show. A couple of reminders fine....what feels like a five minutely update for the senile from Dave Darts himself...too much.
Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
The thing that really pisses me off is when they sit talking drivel then show just round 6 & 7 of an 8 rounder. It sort of whets the appetite & is gone before you know it.

I dont mind them showing highlights, obviously they havent got time to show all so i'd rather have the last 2 rounds of a fight than none at all

If they can`t find time on the saturday, I think during the week when there`s not much on they could show a few fights from the undercard, even if it was just an hour show, I for one would look forward to it.

Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
There's so little boxing on TV now that I spend the week looking forward to Saturday Fight Night on Sky. However, it's got to the point now where I prefer to Sky Plus it, so I can fast forward all the padding and self-promotional guff. Last night we had less than an hour of live boxing - Sky could have shown two or three of the other bouts on the undercard, eg the Richard Towers fight. And of course they go into overdrive in the build up to a PPV event.

There's so much rubbish on Anytime, I always thought it would be a good idea to show the last (or best) fight of the two fighters fighting on the main event on SFN so you get a better feel for the fight, they did this for Haye/Harrison
Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
I think it is a must that they do something like this need not take more than 5-10 mins which they always have spare and seem to try and fill and it just helps with peoples awareness of particular fighters that arent going to be on tv all the time eg Dallas etc etc but are worth keeping an eye on

Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
I've often wondered why Sky don't utilise the red button on Saturday Fight Night and just show the entire card live, switching to Sky Sports at 8/9pm. They seem to have people sitting and commentating on all the fights preceding the live broadcast, in case they show these fights if the live fights finish early, so I'm not really sure what would realistically prevent them from doing it. I'm not sure if there's much additional cost involved but they do it for stuff like South African domestic rugby union, which I can't imagine has bigger viewing figures than the boxing.
Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
I used to love it on Friday Fight Night, I'm sure they used to show 4-5 fights sometimes from the undercard? Not sure why they didn;t really bother on Saturday.
Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
i was so disappointed that we only got lyon v wale and foster last night. itv when warren was with them was amazing, they would show undercard from about 7 till 9:30 on itv2 or 4, then switch to itv1 for the main event. boxing fans were spoiled back then and it's unfortunate where we are, surprised sky cant put undercard on red button or some other channel, especially when there's no live sport on other channels.

Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
think it might have done, they sent sky camrea's to colne to film one of steve wood's vip shows the other week for a "future ringside show" its a start! there missing quite a few talented lads, who are fighting on the small hall circuit!thepocketrocket wrote:Don't know if this thread had any impact...but last night they gave a rundoqn of the undercard fights!! Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
Ringside would be a good fight to show undercard fights - this is what they used to do. I think both fights finishing early last Saturday was part of the reason why they showed more.

Re: Idea for Saturday Fight Night!
One of the reason why they wont show all the undercard fights is that the fighters get paid more money if theyre fight appears on sky. Whether Sky pay this or if the promoter have to stump up the extra cash i dont know. Well this was the case when my cousin used to box on sky televised fight cards.
