groves v allottey.

Re: groves v allottey.
Not much you can draw from that performance. I think he got caught silly a couple of times because of the boys freakishly long arms, so when he leant back 'the boy would stretch a little bit more and graze him. I thought Groves picked his shots well and worked of the jab nicely against an ungamely opponent, all in all a decent workout and not much more
Re: groves v allottey.
guy was 5'11 & he wasnt exactly tricky in his tactics apart from just being a southpaw.
Re: groves v allottey.
Alottey didn't even throw the punches correctly. Groves was up against an awful, erratic stylist.
A good bit of experience for Groves, especially as Alottey was a southpaw.
Still can't see the DeGale fight going ahead, though.

Re: groves v allottey.
The way Adam Booth was talking last. Night, I can see the fight happening. I don't think it was a coincidence he boxed a southpaw last night knowing that Degale is his next opponent. Going back to last nights fight, you can't really take a lot out of the performance. That guy really wasn't up to much. His foot work was nothing short of awful and didn't know how to throw a punnch without turning round 180degrees. Anyway another win for Grooves, let's hope its Degale nextTerrrrry wrote:Alottey didn't even throw the punches correctly. Groves was up against an awful, erratic stylist.

I said the same a while back mate, he is going backwards in his developement now. It's a shame as he has a lot of potential.
My prediction is he gets beat, changes camp and improves from there.
Sky tried to make a lot of 'awkward' comments re Allotey but he was simply a poor boxer, no if's or but's.
Re: groves v allottey.
A decent enough performance. Good shots that took Allotey out.
I still don't see Groves DeGale happening yet though. Although Hayemaker has won the purse bids, I can't see DeGale's promoter letting his star attraction fight on someone else's card unless its in order to win a belt and bring it back home. Groves does hold the commonwealth, but surely DeGale should be looking past that. Doesn't Magee have to vacate the European title when he fights Bute? And also, Steiglitz, is defending against someone in April for the WBO belt?

Re: groves v allottey.
Groves looks far better when he works his jab, but to often he stands there feinting and dipping his hands in.
I dont care if Alottey was a southpaw i can't see that fight helping him 1 bit against Degale, the guy really had no boxing skill whatsoever and i think groves could have learnt a lot more off a decent journeyman that knows the basics of boxing.

Re: groves v allottey.
From the sounds of it Groves v Degale is a done deal. If i were booth i'd be pointing him in a different direction for a while though - degale is unstoppable at the moment. I genuinely believe even at the level he's been fighting at, degale could step up to world class now and give a good account of himself. he may not be able to beat the likes of froch and ward - but there plenty of other top 10 smw's i'd fancy him against.
Re: groves v allottey.
I would definitely be steering Groves away from DeGale too. The politics of this fight are interesting - ie - what and who's bill will it appear on. DeGale will, in my opinion, be a pay per view name soon, but if the fight is made this year, it will be interesting to see whether it headlines a normal sky saturday fight night, or whether it appears on a PPV night (such as Cleverly's WBO shot in May, which, surprisingly, is in London not Wales.) They need a good supporting card for this.

Re: groves v allottey.
His defence was probably the best it's been recently so I don't really understand that gripe? He kept his hands up to catch punches and even managed to slip some. Granted it was against a poor boxer but he seemed to have learnt lessons about hanging his chin out, hands low.
Liked his patience, drew leads and countered, favouring the straight right. His opponent wasn't 'tricky' as the commentators seemed to think, just rangy, but didn't throw often enough to put Groves out of his comfort zone.
Not really preparation for DeGale, but I think he wanted to try out a few new things so a success in that sense.

I don't think he did anything particularly wrong he doesn't have many dimensions to his game though. DeGale is on a different level.
Re: groves v allottey.
couldent agree more, i think he will fight degale next, loose and then his career will start under a new coach !DaveBoyMorrison wrote:hurlock wrote:what did you lot think of his performance??? i felt his defence was very leaky & the haye impersonating has to stop before he get's stopped :!: even pouts like haye
