Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
cant wait for the rematch swifty gonna show everyone what he can do when hes got 2 hands, i thought he won by 2 rounds last this time i can see it being even wider
Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
i dont think there is such thing as an easy night v simpson :!: i expect smith to box more sparingly & use angles were simpson wont be able to adjust & set himself. swifty has the ability to totally outbox simpson which knowbody to date has
Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
i didnt say it would be easy but i believe smith is a level or 2 above simpson is a good domestic/european level fighter

Lets face it guys Simpson won the first fight, ive watched it many times and i cant beleive Stephen got it,unlike Swifty thoughts john has changed dramatically and Swifty will soon find out the difference when hes not got John's old titlehurlock wrote:i dont think there is such thing as an easy night v simpson :!: i expect smith to box more sparingly & use angles were simpson wont be able to adjust & set himself. swifty has the ability to totally outbox simpson which knowbody to date has
Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
Billy - your posts are often bullish and a little grating, but in this instance I tend to agree. Simpson won the first fight imo and I think he can take the rematch, just tougher, more experienced and coming into his own in the last couple of years. It will take a lot for most domestic players to beat him now.billy nelson wrote:Lets face it guys Simpson won the first fight, ive watched it many times and i cant beleive Stephen got it,unlike Swifty thoughts john has changed dramatically and Swifty will soon find out the difference when hes not got John's old titlehurlock wrote:i dont think there is such thing as an easy night v simpson :!: i expect smith to box more sparingly & use angles were simpson wont be able to adjust & set himself. swifty has the ability to totally outbox simpson which knowbody to date has
Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
Good interview. Swifty is a talented boxer and well-spoken.
I fancy him big here. Simpson is tough, but limited. Swifty has the tools to outbox him and if the game plan goes as expected, I can see Swifty scoring a wide win.

Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
Billy know's his boxing. the last fight was very close as the rounds were tight & most would lean towards the home fighter.but the first four rounds until the break were dominated by smith & everyone will agree.i cant see how a pro of 8 plus years at domestic level can change??& why does he need to if he was controversially beaten?? simmo will be in a complete diffrent mindset coming off a great win against lindsay & it will be a cracker but i think swifty will be a bit to clever this time round & i'll be tuned in to see if im rightTheCobra wrote:Billy - your posts are often bullish and a little grating, but in this instance I tend to agree. You prepare for the "me" from September and ill prepare for the John from September/December/all the time. See u in April ey....date set...soon as I beat John and beat him well, u will be going on then about how he should have moved on to European level before bla bla blabilly nelson wrote:Lets face it guys Simpson won the first fight, ive watched it many times and i cant beleive Stephen got it,unlike Swifty thoughts john has changed dramatically and Swifty will soon find out the difference when hes not got John's old titlehurlock wrote:i dont think there is such thing as an easy night v simpson :!: i expect smith to box more sparingly & use angles were simpson wont be able to adjust & set himself. swifty has the ability to totally outbox simpson which knowbody to date has

Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
Scotland's fearless John Simpson defends his British featherweight title against former conqueror Stephen Smith of Liverpool in a fantastic match at Liverpool's Olympia on April 27.
Simpson dropped a disputed 12-round decision to Smith six months ago in Glasgow for the Commonwealth featherweight title (which will also be on the line) but the unbeaten Smith broke his left hand in the fight which required an operation and believes, with some justification, he would have won more convincingly otherwise. Of course, Simpson will say his hard head caused the injury and welcome to the school of hard knocks, so a rematch is in order, particularly as Simpson bounced back to win the British title from Belfast's previously unbeaten Martin Lindsay in Belfast which ranks as a superb 'away' display - another superb away display - from Simpson, a real road warrior from Greenock who pulls off upset after upset where other men fear to tread. Smith at the Olympia? Simpson fought one of his greatest ever fights at the Olympia back in 2007 against an unbeaten "Dirty" Derry Matthews.
Remarkably, the 27-year-old Simpson is just two years older than Smith but seems to have been around forever, whereas Smith only turned pro in 2008 after a distinguished amateur career won him gold at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and a brace of ABA titles. Now 11-0 (6) as a pro, Smith is a marvellous boxing talent with all the moves. He lacks pure knockout power but nothing in speed, sharpness and strength - and strength of of mind. He was stepping up when he met Simpson last September and, even with the gammy hand, even in Glasgow, came through for the 'proper' Commonwealth belt, but the hand has kept him out since and he recently linked up with elder brother Paul under the magnificent training arm of Joe Gallagher, whose stable includes the unbeaten Murray brothers and Anthony Crolla. Simpson, for his part, is schooled by the bullish yet brilliant Billy Nelson and enjoys great sparring with WBO super-featherweight champion Ricky Burns.
This really is 50-50, classic 50-50. Smith could have done with a loosener perhaps but is sparring well and planning, no doubt, to outbox the strong, pressure-fighting Scot, roared on by partisan support, which will only roar on Simpson. Nevertheless, what Smith has done before he can presumably do again. "Swifty" uses all his boxing skills to take the British title on a thrilling, bruising, desperately close decision.

Re: Swifty on Switching Gyms and Simpson
Cracking match, glad it's been made! I think Simpson tried to box with Smith too much in the last fight (I still thought Simpson won it though!) and was a lot more effective when he was going forward pressuring Smith, if Simpson can mix his boxing and aggression like he did against Lindsay I can see him winning this one but it should be a cracker.
