Lee vs mcewan *spoiler*

Post by chiggsy »

Excellent fight one of the best i've seen this year.
Both men throwing big shots from the first bell and both gave it everything.
Great finish from lee in the last round.

Great fight. Lee really needed that KO. He was about to go down 7-2 on my scorecard when he dropped McEwan the first time. I imagine Andy was down on all of the official cards, but he did exactly what he needed to do.

I thought it was going to be a boring fight, but it made my night.

Wheres Bennie?! Come out you crawler!

Lee lulled McEwan into a false sense of security and then pulled the banjo out of his back pocket - slap, bang and a muthafrickin whallop!!!

Bring on Martinez - that will be easy!

:bag:

I love boxing.

lee was out on his feet end of round 4 nearly stopped there, credit to both fighters, if craig had better stamina had that in bag

According to the American commentators Lee would have won the fight on the official scorecards without the knockout (i.e. if he merely won the final round).

However, I definitely had McEwan up at the time.

Wow that is pretty bad. McEwan definitely should have been winning the fight.

I had it a draw going into the last.

Lee 1, 7, 8, 9, 10 (two)

McEwan 2 - 6

He looked awful and ragged but I think its a stretch to say he was "out on his feet"

Did you see Martinez destroy Dzin? Do you really think Lee would beat him?

Gutsy comeback from Lee, but he had loads of problems tonight with a sub world class opponent. Can't see him beating any top ten names at 160.

In case you didnt pick up on it, there was a heavy hint of irony about my original post.

Lee looked awful in there and was lucky to pull the iron out of the fire in the end.

Thoughts of Martinez should be banished along with the clowns he had in his corner.

Going over my card, I would have had it a draw if McEwan had gotten up and lasted the distance, so the scoring wasn't as bad as I thought (unless Lee would have won by comfortable margins.

Credit to Lee for ending strong. That has typically been a weak point of his.

It's hard to if you are being serious when you make comments like that about particular fighters. I kind of expected you to think Lee would beat Martinez

Super fight and great credit to McEwan,(TIME WILL PROVE THAT HE IS A GREAT BOXER)who after round 8 was all square in 2 cards and ahead by 2 in other.McEwan is without the best British Middleweight around incl Barker and Macklin.
Craig boxed his fight between round 3 and 6 incl.and had nothing left.
As for Andy what a man,his best win to date and while i respect his wishes to go looking for a shot at Martinez,he imo while up in top 5 now in world rankings should look at Barker Macklin or Vera and then step up.
But a great night for Limerick and a great night for the Irish.

Blimey can't someone teach Andy Lee to move his bloody head! No wonder his nose is like that. He's so tall, has lots of physical advantages and doesn't use them.

Sounds like a good fight. Crucially, Lee will have learned more from that than his last half-dozen or so put together.

It was a very good fight, McEwan was boxing superbly until around the 7th when he got tired. I had it even going into the last giving Lee the 1st and then McEwan the next 5 before Lee won the next 3 very closely! Feel sorry for Craig but hopefully he can come again.

I'm really annoyed with McEwan, he was obviously tired, but still, it was a basic lack of concentration that allowed himself to get caught by the straight left in the 9th and that effectively ended the fight. He needs to improve his stamina as not to loose concentration down the stretch. This is a fight he should have won and i'm sure he'll be kicking himself big time!

It should have been onwards and upwards for McEwan, and back to the drawing board for Any Lee.

If McEwan had power the result would have been different. But credit to Lee for the win. Not sure where he goes from here, though. If he steps up a level he'll get knocked out, imo.

Good finish, but Lee looks soooo vunerable when he takes those shots bolt upright - what happened to Manny Steward ? He used to talk about Andy being the 2nd coming, and now he's nowhere to be seen?

Martinez looked a million dollars - I actually thought the WBO champ would give him big problems, but he just blew him away - amazing late career surge by the Argie - a serious puncher these days. Hope they dont make a fight against lee for him - he'd absolutely pulverize the Irishman.

That's exactly how I had it. Lee doesn't stand a chance with Martinez.
