Booth going to Spain to box Kiko
http://midlandsboxing.blogspot.com/2011 ... n-for.html
Not spamming but spoke to Jason and he's got to travel to Spain to box Kiko Martinez for the vacant European title.
Anyone fancy his chances on Continental soil? He's boxed for this belt three times in the past, twice in France and once in Spain, and has been jobbed on each occasion.
He seems confident.

Re: Booth going to Spain to box Kiko
He's got his work cut out in this one - Has he got enough left in the tank to work out a big decision over there?
He's certainly savvy enough to avoid the bombs from Martinez, but then again this might be the fight were father time does catch up with him.
He is a good fighter is Booth and i'm sure with a little more direction in the past, he could have been a long standing world champion.

Re: Booth going to Spain to box Kiko
Kiko punches like a middleweight, but we've all seem him get outboxed a few times. Booth needs to try and keep his head attached to his neck for the first 3 rounds (off the backfoot, taking few risks), then start cranking up the pace.
Nobodies gonna have an easy night with Kiko, but Booth's called '2 Smooth' for a reason. If he boxes well I'd expect him to take a fairly close decision (judges dependent obv)
hopefully Sky pick this one up

Re: Booth going to Spain to box Kiko
I think Booth is fading IMO. He's struggled in his last few fights and is really small for a super bantamweight. His best weight was flyweight and I think he could still make bantamweight no problem. I think the physical advantages and punching power of Martinez might be too much. Also I've seen many a dubious decision in Spain so if its remotely close the verdict will be going to the Spaniard. Not a fight I will be betting on, that's for sure.

booth is getting on a bit for the lighter weights, hope he does it tho hes an inpsiration to young boxers jason
Re: Booth going to Spain to box Kiko
I think it's a bit too much to ask of Booth to get the win in Kiko's country. With home advantage, maybe, but on away soil this may go the same way as his other EBU challenges...all abroad too.
Re: Booth going to Spain to box Kiko
I overheard Jimmy Gill, Booths manager saying they did not want to do a deal for home advantage so Maloney bid according to the TV money and the cost of staging an European Title fight were it was reported Martinez done a deal with the Spanish promoter for home advantage.
Booth is not a ticket seller like Munroe. So knowing Maloney's way of doing things he would have bid what was in Booths contract. Maybe Gill and Booth will live to regret, in my days we always done deals for my fighters with Duff and Warren for home advantage and even Maloney a couple of times.
In today's financial climate it is even harder for the promoters and sometimes managers, trainers and fighters do not realise how tough things are. I for one would not promote in the current climate.

Re: Booth going to Spain to box Kiko
Can only echo the trepidation said in the posts above regarding this fight, has looked in Booths last few fights that he has lost a step. We all know in terms of skill level that Booth is a clear level above Martinez but I just haven't seen the snap in his punches in the last few fights, and asking him to get a decision against Martinez in spain is a tough call. I saw his last fight on the Magee undercard in Ireland last year and he looked pretty good IMO, looking to box more instead of his usual reckless self.
What are the chances of Sky bothering to televise this? When was the last time Spain actually had a high quality fight for that matter? The competition the likes of Martinez, Campillo and back when Sergio Martinez was fighting there has been shocking.
Maybe the judges will actually be fair!

Booth doesnt get the credit for how good he is , but hell never get that credit now ,i mean from casuals rather than die hards , at the end of the day its the casuals that the big money comes from , I believe he is on the decline now though , and although he may still have enough to pull it out of the bag here , which will be damn tough , i dont expect much more from him , personally i think if he wins he should walk away as european champion , if he loses then have one more at Harvey Hadden in front of his own fans in his own area of Nottingham that he grew up , against someone that he should beat but wont just lie down , either way i see this as Booths last year as a pro .
But i think his experience would be invaluble to younsters and that he should therfor be involved in coaching or something afterwards .
