Official FINAL Lonsdale Report: Fitszimmons triumphs.

Post by BoxBuzz »

Image
Let it be known

This Season Bob Fitszimmons and Charley Burley were the first belt holders that qualified to attain a second belt. Charley Burley did not seek out his peer, whilst Bob challenged "any man in the house". The lineage has now been established. From this moment on the SimRing Lonsdale belt will be bestowed to anyone who can defeat Bob Fitszimmons in the ring, and then to he who can beat that man. This lineage is born of honor, courage and achievement and will forever be given to only those who persevere against the wearer of the SimRing/Lineal/Lonsdale belt.

No champion may be stripped of this honor unless he retires or is defeated by his opponent. No champion will ever be "given" this honor unless he earns it. We wish and hope that every champion that ever holds this belt will choose his challenger with sensibility but will be bound by no other code than his own set of values. For we know and trust that no one has a greater capacity for decision making than a standing champion. Regardless of how hard he was hit in his last defense of the Lonsdale title.

There are no rules other than the thoughtful decision of the standing champion as to who may vye for this honor. The standing champion makes his choice as to who is worthy by simply stepping into the ring with his chosen opponent. For this belt and honor denotes only actions that manifest into sim reality. We wish everyone good luck, good will, and good judgment.

Draws are unmanly and require special attention.

If a challenger should obtain a draw with a standing Lonsdale BeltHolder said challenger shall be issued a Lonsdale belt of their own. These belts may be immediately reunified if both fighters are agreeable to a return match. However the challengers belt in this case is a eunuchs belt and can not be acquired by any other combatant as it has no lineage of it's own. A eunuchs belt may be reunified by a rematch with a holder of the primary belt at any point in time when and if such an event occurs. Otherwise the challenger will remain the owner of a eunuch belt until such time as the standing Lonsdale belt holder and the Eunuch belt-holder agree to compete. Draws are not encouraged. SimRing and Lonsdale officials feel that a sanctioned fight should be won or lost, not dithered.

So it is written. So it shall be done.

Ben K.....For the second time in as many seasons, the first manager to attain this honor.

Mr Buzz I am sorry to inform you that there are inaccuracies in your Lonsdale report.
BoxBuzz wrote:This Season Bob Fitszimmons and Charley Burley were the first belt holders that qualified to attain a second belt.
You have already identified 2 fighters who have won major World Titles;
Bob Fitzsimmons (IBF in Week 13 & WBC in Week 17)
Charley Burley (WBA in Week 11 & IBF in Week 17)

However, there are other boxers who have achieved who have won 2 different major world titles:
Marvin Hagler (Original IBF Champion & WBC in Week 15)
Gorilla Jones (WBC in Week 9 & WBA in Week 17)
Harry Smith (Original WBA Champion & WBO in Week 16)
Mickey Walker (Original WBC Champion & reigning WBO Champ)

And you have ignored the claims of these 4 boxers... And you have failed to mention the fact that Hagler has been The Number One for the most weeks.

Aside from the above fighters... Others have had rpeat successes with titles:
Nonpareil Jack Dempsey is a 2-time WBO Champion (Original Champ and Week 13)
Nino Benvenuti is a 2-time WBO Champion (in Weeks 9 & 17)

But the only 3 time major world champion is:
Harry Greb - who has won the WBA strap on 3 occasions (in Weeks 9, 13 & is the current WBA Champion after winning it on week 20).

All this needs to be taken into account and not conveniently ignored.

Bit too soon to be crowning Fitz as the Lonsdale/Lineal Champ just yet.

IMO we should wait until after a unification fight, it's the only way to maintain the integrity of this prestigious title.

Crease your attention to detail is appreciated. However subjectivity, being what it is, will always lead to weaseling of one sort or another.

The critical "Lonsdale" decision is made in response to only one set of questions this season.

Were there TWO champions this week that COULD unify? Yes or No?

Was their ONE champion willing to engage the other? Yes or No?

Was the other Champion willing? ( This would mean "availing" himself yes or no?

The answer to these questions will determine the outcome of the Lonsdale board's decision.

If we have made an error, and there were NOT two champions who COULD unify, then this decision could be rescinded.

To answer your 3 questions.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.

As can be viewed at:
http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=135054

Burley had already signed for a fight before Fitzsimmons called him out.

I would say that you are a tad too hasty in awarding the Lonsdale title. Burley's manager Deno was not aware that he could unify, let us gavethe man the benefit of the doubt.

It would be a crime if the Lonsdale belt was won just because of an assumption.
That's not the way to go about things. :shame:

You ask for truth? Let's wait just 1 more week for it, Mr. Buzz.

Burley and Fitzsimmons were both eligible to unify but I did not know my fighter was eligible so I offered a shot to Nigel Benn which was signed before any talk of unification was raised.

Burley has already agreed to fight a Unification fight should he and Fitz come though their next fight.

Crease, if both were available and one chose not to engage, it is very difficult for the Lonsdale board to approve of "happenstance" as the reason that the fight did not take place. You approved of Tzyu's ruling of the "3 times and you can unify" rule. As did the Lonsdale board. But Lonsdale officials will not abide a "three times and you can duck the first opportunity to unif affair". From the Lonsdale point of view, it was a mandated fight.

Fitz was willing, Charlie chose another opponent when the option was available. The lineage is relevant, credible and supportable by the fair minded.

If they both win this week, and they face each other next week, fate will bring it together in a way that satisfies you.

However, history is filled with "fateful decisions". And this week in Sim History...is now simply one to be added to the books.

Fitzsimmons is now the first Lonsdale recipient, the lineage begins based on courage and honor. His willingness to engage when the first genuine opportunity arose has sealed the decision.

If Deno did not know, then there is no shame. Simply missed opportunity.

Not to be argumentative, but in this case it certainly does not "accurately articulate". Maybe a mis-judgment has taken place andwhen presented with the facts, the Lonsdale board has disregarded the other facts and reinforced heavily their original decision.

No benefit has been given to Mr. Deno on this issue, and quite frankly I am startled.

....the Lonsdale world has only two simple dynamics. Action and Consequence.

"Special Handling" except in the case of draws, does not exist.

It's strictly old school.

Old School you say? Well Mr. Buzz, there is nothing old school about awarding titles without valid title-fights.

The fight in question is: Burley vs Fitzsimmons and upon completion, we will truly have a champion.

There is going to be question marks all over this. But I have said my piece and now I am done.

This could be easily fixed, all deno needs to do is sign the fight. lamotta and Benn could fight for the chance to meet the new champion.

That's not my call. It's Neri's, but he shouldn't be under any pressure to withdraw Benn from the title shot.

They would be wise to do this. If either of them wins this week they wont be able to unify.

If they take a step back they have the chance of becoming a unified champ.

I agree it with JDC as it could also be a long time before we have another chance for a unification
