2009 Junior World Championships

Post by Jma05 »

Does anyone know how USAB is selecting a team for this. Will the Junior Olympic Champions of this year go, or will USAB hand select a team?

If the Jr. Worlds are after the JO Nationals, the team will be selected from the JO champions.

There are two problems here
1 The USA junior nationals finish on July 17 and the world championships start on 20 July.
2 Boys born in 1994 could win the junior nationals but be too old for the world championships which is restricted to boys born in 1995 and 1996.
The team could be selected from the Silver gloves finals where most of the competitors were born in 1995/1996 or more sensibly box-offs between the top four in each weight class.Time though is running out

Won't select from Silver Gloves - remember 14 boxes 15 there. May just pick from last year's JO champions....

Some of last years Junior Olympic champions are too old, they were either born in 1993 or 1994
and are not eligible.
Jesus Luna, Aujee Tyler and Gary Salazar are the only ones who qualify for this years worlds from last years JO champions
