Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
This thread is closely related to another thread on here, but it doesdeserve it's own.
The questions is:
What is your opinion of Brian Magee's performance in his world title shot?
Did your estimation of him increase?
Did your estimation of him go down?
Magee's people said that the fight has brought more spotlight on Magee and it will open the dorr up to further world title shots in future.
What do you think?
By value, I mean Magee getting the big money fights and fighting for more world titles.

Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
Personally, I don't see that his loss to Bute has done anything positive for his career.
It just reinforces the fact that Brian cannot cope with the elite fighters of the division.
He should NOT have taken the fight, he did not have the tools to win it.
The best that can be said is that he was hurt permanently.
And thank god for that, I keep hearing that he's a very nice man away from the ring.

Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
I actually think his value has gone up. He's gone to Bute's back yard and was more competitive than a lot of people expected. He now has recognition on the other side of the pond. From what i've read, the Yanks seemed quite impressed. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another shot at one of the "regular" titles.
Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
Do you think he will be in contention for the vacant WBA title?Newport Daz wrote:I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another shot at one of the "regular" titles.

Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
I hope so. The Bute fight showed everything that was good about him and the fact he can be beaten. He's the sort of guy TV likes these days and we all know the networks call the shots. I definatly anticipate another shot at something decent off the back of the Bute fight.Crease wrote:Do you think he will be in contention for the vacant WBA title?Newport Daz wrote:I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another shot at one of the "regular" titles.

Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
From the US based boxing shows I listen to it seems they were impressed with Magee's effort and the fact he got up from some punishing bodyshots and still continued to give it a go. I can definitely see him getting another opportunity and decent payday against a name.

Do you write this sort of response when other posters point out the mistakes of others?Asterix wrote:It's pretty obvious he did.

To approximately what extent?Horse wrote:To an extent.Asterix wrote:Does it matter?Horse wrote:Do you write this sort of response when other posters point out the mistakes of others?
Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
Brian has always put up a real fight; Bute is the best he's fought (from his mouth, Boxing News post fight interview); Like Magee says; it is no disgrace to lose to the best in the world. Lucien also praised Magee. He is a very capable boxer in a talent laden division.

No. That fight is for Stieglitz's WBO Title, Sartison dropped the WBA title to take that fight on.lefty wrote:stieglitz is gonna be fighting sartison hoping to win that belt isnt he?

I hope you're rightNeri. I have a lot of time for Brian and I would like to see him win a world title before he calls it a day.Neri wrote:I can definitely see him getting another opportunity and decent payday against a name.
And let's face it, pound-for-pound there have been fighters worse than Brian to have won world titles in the past 10 years.
Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight

I'm not going to be the one who asks what the 3 C's are but if someone else wants to I'll read it. :)

Let's wait and see what he is liking when facing the likes of Froch or Ward.hurlock wrote:cool, calm & collectedDD he has that poise & confidence & is so relaxed he will allways be at his best.
Until then, we should try to refrain from giving him too much credit here.
Re: Brian Magee: After the Bute fight
I think Magee would benefit with some better coaching and advice.
I wish he'd had mixed it up a bit, instead of going for the same shots he had a bit of success with early doors.
He is game enough no doubt and very determined. I'd peg him around the Sartison / Stieglitz level (European) and can still win a version of the belt.
I expect the Groves vs Degale winner to fight him next personally, as a yard stick.
