Motivation.

Post by stus »

Out of the night that covers me, black as the pit from pole to pole. I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance i have not winced or cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody but not bowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but the the horror of the shade. And yet the menace of the years finds me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishment the scroll... I am the master of my fate... I am the captain of my soul. I love this always gets me pumped. Bit different i know but hope u like it

Over in New Zealand, if you ask a New Zealand rugby fan why the South African team won the 2005 World Cup, they will tell you of a woman called Suzie who was a waitress at the hotel the New Zealand team was staying at, and is widely believed to have poisoned the Kiwi's prior to the final and not the poem's motivation.

Why would she poison the kiwi team? They weren't even in the final.

From memory south africa beat nz to get to the final. How true the poison thing is i dont know but i remember it being a massive event. I posted the poem as i think its great for sportsman and men alike. I read this poem ten years ago and loved it. Nothin to do with world cup or poison conspiracy. The movie just reminde me of it

I was 10 years out, it was the 1995 World Cup Final and a bit more information and speculation can be found here about the poisoned chalice claimed by the Kiwis:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Rugby_World_Cup_Final

I always remembered watching the game live and the appearance by Nelson Mandela before the kick off set off goose bumps and no wonder the Springboks were fired up with their pride at stake. I felt at the time, the All Blacks believed that all they had to do was turn up to collect the trophy and that the food poisoning was a cover story to counter criticism by the disappointed great rugby watching public back home. They overlooked the passion that the emergence of a new South Africa bought and this is exemplified in the poem.
