Lets see Calzaghe vs Green, here is a guy in Green who has floored two of the top 5 Super Middleweights in his last two fights. He is effectively undefeated and seems more than willing to fight in the opponents back yard.

The winner of a Calzaghe vs Green match up will move to #1 in the Super Middle rankings (providing Green this time beats Beyer) and it will be certainly intriguing. Lucas may not be the most naturally gifted champion of all time, but his chin has NEVER been questioned. Would Calzaghe been able to stop him?

Yeah great win by the Aussie in Lucas' backyard. Beyer must be quaking in his boots at the thought of meeting Green again, he was very lucky to get out of the last fight in one piece.

Green looks a very big puncher and it'd be a great match for Joe to take.
I agree he should give up on the reluctant Ottke - it'd be a boring fight anyway.

In the meantime I'm looking forward to seeing Green demolish Beyer in a rematch. The German is a very good fighter, but Green will bring the excitement.

Agreed, JC needs to forget about Ottke and accept that it'll probably never happen. A real shame, but the beating the Ottke of today would be a somewhat hollow win

Green - JC? Give Green a few more fights experience against top opponents before trying on Joe for size. At this point Green would lose IMO

Yes good points, I do believe Ottke of a few years ago (even his display against Mitchell) would have given Calzaghe problems and was a hard fight to predict, but its 3 dreary performances in a row now. I think the decision was correct last time, but undoubtedly he's slowing.

One thing about Ottke, his best performances seem to be against better opposition. You compare his performances against Mitchell and Tate to Joe Gatti and Anthony Mundine (okay Mundine has shown us he is good, but at the time it was considered an easy defence). It is possible that he's finding it hard to motivate himself. Starie and Reid are no longer/never were at the top of the supermiddleweight tree, so maybe Ottke had problems getting up for these fights. However, Larsen does spoil the theory, cause he was always considered a dangerous opponent.

Your right about Green, ideally I'd like to see him in with a few more, but in reality there only a relative novice in Mundine ranked above him now (excluding Ottke). He's beaten (essentially) to of the top 5 fighters. So who can he fight to get the required experience. Glenn Cateley? Rob Reid? Any suggestions.

Ottke will soon be retired, and I for one cannot wait, no way does he deserve to be holding two of the three major belts, and anyone who thinks Ottke should have won that fight, must also think that referee wasn't paid off.

Seems like Australia are producing some very decent guys at the moment capable of making a noise at the top level, Glenn Kelly is effectively finished but Danny Green, Paul Briggs and Anthony Mundine in particular are keeping things ticking nicely. Green has shown in his last two fights that he is a very serious contender at SM and as much as i dislike Mundine i to stress people not to judge him on the Ottke fight (which he was clearly winning anyway) because as he showed against a one dimensional Antwun Echols he has lots more to offer other than a big mouth. Of course many people know i am a strong believer in Paul Briggs, he's exciting, game and not afraid to fight the best available opposition in Australia or abroad. The sooner Briggs-Woods happens the better.

why hasn't Briggs fought any of the name Europeans at his weight? He seems like a good matchup for Michalczewski, Drews, Sahnoune, Woods and even some other guys. He has only fought once outside of Oz and that was in San Francisco against a non-belt competitor.
