Why do people slate the guy so much?Is it just because his style is not exciting?At the end of the day half the people who slag him off havent boxed before in there life so they cant say what it's like to fight someone like Matthew,he is english and doing well thats what we should remember

(1) Yes he's English, though clearly views himself as a Gypsy first and foremost which is which he is allegedly taking the BBBoC to court on a discrimination charge. (something we really want to see in boxing...)

(2) His style isn't boring.........it's downright mindnumbing.

(3) Nobody is blatently "down" on the guy, it's just that nobody (aside from yourself perhaps) particularly admires his talents either.

(4)Tony "Cokey" Oakey was a bit fo a joke in my opinion anyway, so I don't rate Barney's win over him for an alphabet title as an amazing achievement, though he accepted the fight at very short notice which is admirably.

Barney is a prime example of why boxing will never be more popualr than it currently is. Boring domestic contests, for poor titles, fought with an incredibly boring style.

And we're supposed to be "up" on the guy?

Barney is shite. His 'fight' with Charles Adamu was the single most boring fight i have ever seen.

Ok your opinions you are intilted to guys but anyone who can beat Dean Francis in a british title fight surley cant be "shite" but you guys no best

from what i saw of that fight, francis was the only one doing anything barney was running and poking that so called jab of his and yet the ref lifted his arm and the end :x

Jacko - Didn't you notice Francis fighting with only the one arm? The other was totally screwed from an old injury, and it was strongly recommended his retire immidiately afterwards.

(I scored the fight to Francis ANYWAY...even with one arm!)

Barney aint bad at what he does but i admit he is hard work to watch at times, i also had him losing to one armed Francis.

Any news on whether or not Oakey is going to get a shot at a return match with Barney? I've only seen Barney once (thanks to Dutch's FTP site) and didn't care much for his style, but I think it is credible that he beat Oakey (although one has to wonder how things would've turned out had Oakey stayed away from the cokey).

Well.....with the drugs issue hanging over him I'd think it highly unlikely that Oakey will be going into the ring with Barney in the near future.

I can't agree more, plus i only saw 6 rounds of the "fight".
