Atmosphere at the MEN tomorrow night

Post by Robnorton »

Judging from the weigh-in the Irish will be there in force. Its going to be a big factor i think with a lot of Khan's "home" advantage wiped out by McCloskey's fans. I see Amir is claiming his fans will outshout McCloskey's - a little optimistic Amir I'd say !

Amir's fans are the most despicable bunch I have ever come across at a boxing match.

I think the atmosphere will be a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen & CO2, with trace elements of heavy metals.

Khan's Army - load of scumbags.

Against Scott Lawton it was horrid, worst atmosphere ever seen at a fight.

Not all his supporters but there is a core group of them who are just a bunch of thugs and hooligans who've been involved in violence several times in the crowd during his fights.

Hummus is not Pakistani. Hummus is a Middle Eastern dish particularly enjoyed by Arabs and Jews.

I was on that bill and back that up . The police did not help. Not getting into a race thing & amir I sort of know , nice lad. But police left the asians to wind people up , start trouble & jumped on the people who bit and had a go back. Almost as if they just wanted to avoid confrontation with them for fear of being branded racist . Was a bit of a piss take

Look Ryan mate, I really don't want to get into an argument about the race thing. I was there & thought khans fans agressed & caused probs . You always get the odd knob and lawtons fans were not blameless. The whole thing was Bollocks. But from what I saw. Khans mob kicked it off. The old bill should nick every trouble maker, not be worried about saving face.

The problem is this kind of "atmosphere" can be downright off putting or even dangerous to the person who wants to just watch the boxing.

The worst kind of twat - and unfortunatly there will be some there - is the drunk bully, who will pick on anyone who looks like an easy target.

There needs to be a police presence, arrests for violence in the crowd, and convictions. Then people might get the message that it's not acceptable.

It took time with football, but by and large they managed it. And now, families, sports fans etc can enjoy the sport without the cocks ruining it for everyone.

Don't like to be stereotypical but with hundreds of pissed up irishmen and hundreds of wannabe gangster (but usually business students) asian men on opposing sides think theyre will be trouble tonight.

Hope i'm wrong though.

So would it be fair to say that despite all the dire warnings by some people who post here the atmosphere between the Khan fans and the Irish was fine - in fact actually quite fun

The atmosphere at the MEN on saturday was fúcking epic. The place was dead for the whole undercard, with the exception of Martin Murray's band of fans. Murray's fans brought alot of colour and singing to the arena. They seemed like a good bunch.

When Dudey entered the arena the roof nearly lifted. There was a great buzz around for the whole fight. Gutted the way it ended, would have prefered to see Dudey get KO'ed than the way it finished. Even with the referee and "Doctor's " crazy decision to stop the fight, there was never a moment that I though any sort of violence would break out.
