I thought the stoppage was poor, but I don't want to see a rematch. Khan won every round decisively and was really starting to rock McCloskey in the sixth. Also, it was a voluntary defense, so Khan doesn't owe McCloskey another shot imo.

In addition to all this, it wasn't an entertaining bout.

I agree with this entirely. It was disappointing for Mcloskey, but it was an easy fight to score 6-0 in Khan's favour. Mcloskey not folding like a deck if cards with the first shot he was hit with doesn't constitute a moral victory the way Steve Collins was intimating.
The styles didn't gel and it was a scrappy fight. If it was a split on the cards then fair enough, it wasn't. Khan should face Bradley in a unification. Let's see if the Hearns will stump up the cash and get Paul another shot. I'm not convinced they will.

Agree.

Crappy stoppage, they NEVER would have stopped the fight had Khan come out of the head clash with an identical cut. But McClosky fought like he'd come to survive rather than win, no interest in the rematch at all for me.

I don't buy that. If it gets stopped with a Khancut, he wins on the cards in exactly the same way. In fact, if he was cut and they allowed it to go on, Khan would have been more disadvantaged than if McCloskey was cut, so that conspiracy theory holds no water at all.

Fair point I'd forgot it was a TD rather than a stoppage.

It's not a conspiracy theory though so lets just calm down with that. I just think they stopped McClosky earlier than they needed to as I've seen much worse cuts allowed to continue. Difference of opinion.

J-C, you're a sensible poster on here. Read some of the posts and you would think Shah Khan and the CIA had were waiting with a fake doctor for the moment they had a chance to end it. Very frustrating for McCloskey, but it was frustrating for Khan too. He wouldn't have wanted any of the controversy.

I do see your point and agree.

Although I heard it was the Cuban exiles in league with the mafia trying to bring down Matchroom because Eddie Hearn knows too much about the faked moon landing :TU:

Rematch?

No thanks, it was only supposed to be a homecoming fight for Khan to look awesome in. Ok it didn't quite go to plan, but Hearn is just slavering for the sake of it.

I feel a bit for the folk that spent hard earned dollar to make the trip, but it was always looking to be a Khan showcase and with that comes the risk of an unsatisafctory finish.

Am I alone in thinking that Mcloskey and his trainer in the post fight interview thought that Khan was knackered and that it was their tactic to make Khan miss early, tire him out and then come on later in the fight? They also felt that due to Khan being tight at the weight, this was all part of their plan? Well, Khan was blowing at the end of the 5th wheras Mcloskey (who was making Khan miss) looked fresh. Khan was having to throw bunches of punches to land 1 and who knows what might have happened as Khan slowed and Mcloskey got that straight left working? I never saw any panic in the Mcloskey corner and but for the clash of heads, the fight could of got interesting in the later rounds.

Anybody else see it this way?

im with you on this rocky,he was throwing 6 punches to land one but still winning the rounds, people dont see mccloskey had a plan to throw very little but with bid affect, the punches he was throwing was the straight right and right uppercut and i believe eventually later in the fight they would of landed and khan would of had legs like a baby giraffe

No call for a re-match on the grounds that Khan showed he was 3 levels above McCloskey and Paul would do no better in a re-match.

Bradley next, then Judah for Khan

I don't think it is crazy to think that the match officials were involved in a conspiracy to help Khan. That sort of thing happens all the time in boxing. I am not saying I think that is what happened, but it is quite possible.

Wasn't that Joe Calzaghe?

Khan wasn't knackered because McCloskey didn't make him work hard. He also had his best round in the sixth, so was showing no signs of slowing down. It was their plan to tire Khan out and get him late on, but there was no proof that it was working in the slightest.

You don't think Referees ever try to help one fighter more than the other in boxing matches then?

Exactly. Khan won all 6 rounds on all three cards. What part of this are people struggling to understand?

Only that Mcloskey had a "gameplan" to , what, lose the first 6 rounds???

Mcloskey showed nothing in there to justify a rematch, and it simply won't happen.

The fights in europe get stopped way to early compared to in america, not all of them but in general ! I believe the stoppage for the McCloskey fight was terrible, the Dr entered the ring which ive never seen before so he might not of been to to many boxing shows before, the ref dident use his own inititive and let the round finish and see what the corner could do with it, and the fact he was losing shouldent of made any diffrence as we all know the scores dident tell the whole story, anyway will he get a rematch ? not this year and probably not next year either but i hope so adventually, and hopefully in america ! keep your chin up Paul your get to the top one way or another ! :TU:
