amir khan is so annoying and hyped beyond belief

Post by Quixall »

The whole amir khan circus pissed me off big time........

The way his management and the media talk about him, you would think he is the next de la hoya or pacquaio, someone who is close to taking on floyd mayweather jr and nothing could be further from the truth.

This kid is a decent fighter, but thats all he is. His main atributes are his speed and reflexes, has decent accuracy and can put combinations together quite well. His ringcraft is average at best and he has a very average defence, so all his attributes lay in his offenence. Let's for a minute forget all those blown up super featherweights and washed up lightweights and non punchers he fought in the early part of his career and the defeat to Prescott and look at the rest. Forget the 106 year old barrera, he fought kotelnik who was durable but average, the kid who he made his first defence ( solita ?) was average, a washed up malignaggi living off his name and an over hyped maidana who should have stopped khan easily in the 10th round and battered him to a decision loss because of that knock down.

Khan is a decent fighter and can compete at the top end of the sport, but he is nothing special and his record and opponents to date dont give him the right to claim this expected greatness we all keep hearing about. Whether its because he spars with pacquioa or us trained by freddie roach or because he has sine silky skills at times, but people seem to fall for all that as the basis to big him up and dont analyse his record or opponents and where they were at their careers the time they fought khan.

In truth he has fought one guy who you can nod some respect to and thats maidana. A fight in which he got battered and was so fortunate not to get sparked in that tenth round. Thats why you got the mcklosky fight because if the pounding he got off maidana last time out. The last thing is khan himself. He seems to have taken all what freddie roach has said to him to his head and its made him arrogant and comes across as a dick.

Amir khan is not the next best thing its mainly pure hype and he will come unstuck

i believe khan will raise his game depending on the standard his facing ! i must admitt the first few rounds dident impress me last night, manny or fmj would of destroyed a man with his hands down by his side.

It would be interesting to see how the American media view him, but my guess is you wouldn't get an objective or truthful account given the fact boxing is on its arse in America and the networks sill hype anyone they feel can make them some money. I agree that khan would raise his game, but he is deficient in the basics and has yet to fight someone who can expose those weaknesses. As I said, maidana should have won that fight easily and it was luck and maidana's failure to close that fight that saved khan. He said after that fight that it proved he had a chin, but all it proved to me was that he is chinny and a fortunate fighter.

I see Khan being beaten again in the next 2 years. He might get passed Bradley but moving up to 147 will be his downfall, the division is rock solid, and anyone is capable of beating one another.

Exactly. It's a murderers row from 140-147. Khan will lose again, and despite his calibre of opposition, these sh*tslingers will be waving their 'told you so' flags.

Marcos Maidana, overhyped. Oh come on have you seen his record and his ranking at 4 at 140lbs. Dropped a tight 12 round decision against Andry Koltenik, was involved in a fight of the year candidate against Victor Ortiz who is now a world champion at Welterweight. There is also a victory against former world champion in DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley, lost another fight of the year candidate in 2010 to current world to Amir Khan and rocked him several times in the fight which was a tight points decision, and won another fight of the year candidate this time for 2011. He is a tough and very strong fighter who serves up very exciting fights so I would not call him overhyped at all.

As for Amir Khan himself, to say that a fellow professional who fighting for a World title which was a dream wanted to quite I find that completely absurd in my eyes, he is a very talented and exciting fighter to watch, and there is nothing wrong with his ambition to fight in the States to fight the best at Light Welter and in the future at Welterweight should he defeat Tim Bradley (if he does fight him) to unify the the WBA/WBC and WBO belts at Light Welter.

Come on dude have you seen the current version of Corley?!

Khan is an accident waiting to happen and having an inept crowd of chancers surrounding him does no favours either.

Khan has deficiencies yes, but dont talk absolute shite and say he has somehow got to where he is by accident. I hate this crap of systematically taking apart every opponnt a fighter has faced and saying they were washed up or overrated. The revisionism by boxing fans is a joke. Kotelnik is a an excellent world-class boxer, Malinaggi is a former champ and no 1 lww contender, Maidana crushed Ortiz (who destroyed Berto) and is a top ranked world rated and respected fighter. Even McCloskey wasnt that bad an opponent. For purely logistic reasons alone it is ridiculous for us to expect fighters to fight the best each and every time. Khan has done all this after being smoked a short time ago and the kid is only 24! What more do we want for Christ sake! How old is Frankie Gavin who everyone loves?

I agree with all those who point out Khan's frailties, he is no Sugar Ray Leonard. But he is a British real deal word class fighter who is going to give us many thrilling nights in the future. For that alone people should get off his back!

Khan is a very good fighter no doubt, but he is nowhere near world class like he is being hyped. I am the first to say im not a Khan fan, but people saying he is a decent fighter who has just used luck to get him where he is are just wrong. However Bradley will beat Khan i feel he is just too trickey for Khan whos only good accet is his speed

Nowhere near world class? What the hell are you talking about? He is arguably the best at 140 in the world. Hes not perfect but he has proved beyond any question that hes world class

Great fighter? No
Beat Bradley? Yes

The foundations are in place for him, the top dogs are looking after him, he's still young, pacman and floyd will be gone in a couple of years.

I think he's a lucky boy and all he's gotta do is stay in shape and an immensely succesful career lies ahead.

exactly Wrists. What we have is a young guy who in terms of timing (i.e. the only uk fighter at the olympics) has been extremely fortunate and went onto have a gold plated career. He IS annoying because he come across a bit delusional and naive and more importantly he is being guided by morons. He doesnt seem to take responsibility for anything as a man e.g. not even speaking to Warren personally and saying thanks for everything but I'm going in a different diretion. Same with Ariza.

However he is a fine boxer, not as good as he thinks he is but genuine world class operator and probably the best fighter of his age in the world.

Yep battered and shop worn fighter, but he is still a former World Champion regardless of his current state. As for Khan being an accident waiting to happen... I guess that's part of the fun of watching him to see whether or not he does get decked in my eyes.

Yeah, just dismiss my opinion on the basis I dont like him.

Nothing I said can be refuted.......

I said the kid is not going to be the next big thing and thats what I mean about being hyped, because he is not the next pacquaio, de la hoya or mayweather. I have said that he can operate at the top end if the sport, I simply stated that the quality of his opponents apart from maidana haven't Been top class, but very average or over thev hill.

I repeat........ He is hype because he isnt the next big thing and will cone unstuck

Read the post properly and you will see that what I'm being criticised for I've already dealt with in the original post. Also, the fact that someone stated that kotelnik was an exceptional world class fighter really dies make me question the quality of this site

My original post said that khan was hyped beyond belief because according to freddie roach and a lot if the media, he is going to be the next big thing, akin to pacquaio, a de la hoya or floyd mayweather jr. The kid also believes it and has had his head turned by freddie roach.

Where is the evidence from his career to date to back this up ????

Khan hasnt fought anyone who can be described as a real top draw fighter, except maidana, which was a fight he was lucky to win and got essentially beaten up in. It wasnt a stepping stone fight or one he dominated, it was a rollercoaster ride where in the end he was lucky.

Apart from maidana..........who has there Been ????

Barrera, thats laughable !! Kotelnik, very average. Solita, just pathetic and malignaggi was on the fade when ricky hathor beat him up.

The reality, is that there isnt one fighter he has faced or one peformance where you can say, wow, that guy is something extraordinary, very exceptional.......not one !!!!

As for him being able to compete at the top end, we all know that, thats no different to hatton or whitter, Mackenzie or benn etc, the main point is that nothing justifies this insane hyper bowl that follows khan around making him out to be the next greatest thing in boxing.

I wouldn't say Kotelnik was very average. He beat Maidana, and many believe he beat Alexander. He's a top 6 LWW IMO, very underrated, and Khan beat him handily. Credit where it's due.

If he is that good then why isnt he in the mix now ?

I'll stick to my appraisal of him, tough and durable but nothing special. My point as I say yet again, is that khan hadn't fought anyone of real note to claim this supposed impending greatness and even if you say " credit where credits due " does beating kotelnik really make khan an oustanding and exceptional fighter worthy if great praise.......

I think not !!

I'm not trying to quantify whether he is good enough to be a world champion or beat particular fighters, that's a dud debate, my point is that he is hyped because beating the likes if kotelnik dont make him a world beater that puts him on a par with the very best.

He is in the mix now. His last two fights were against Khan and Alexander. Just because people aren't queuing up to fight him, doesn't mean he's dropped off the radar. He's with a German promoter who does not have a TV deal right now, so his options are limited.
