ALEX ARTHUR won’t be granted a rematch with Michael Gomez in 2004, according to the Manchester boxer's trainer.
Billy Graham says Gomez is not interested in facing Arthur again after taking the Edinburgh fighter's British super-featherweight crown at Meadowbank in October.
Graham said: "You can tell Arthur that we - Michael and I - are simply not interested in giving him a rematch.
"Why should we? We have nothing to prove and, in fact, we have bigger fish to fry as we are waiting to see if Michael will get a crack at WBU champion Kevin Lear and we also have plans for Michael to fight for the European title in 2004.
"Arthur simply doesn't fit in to these plans and we are not interested in any kind of fight with him.
"Last time we got paid peanuts, and to change our minds would take a huge amount of money but even then speaking as Michael's adviser and coach I am saying that Arthur v Gomez II won't happen in 2004."

fair enough, it would just be a replay of the first fight if it happened so soon. arthur needs to take a little sebatacle and go do some top sparring in the US for six months or so. Not get in the ring with a Gomez until he's had the delusion that he needs no defence and can only lose to a sore throat knocked out of him.
