I hate PPV but....

Post by Jeff Thomas »

I will be buying on Saturday. Two quality fights, and a definate step forward for the winners and minor set back for the losers. I'll be paying for this, as opposed to watching it on stream because the matches are intriguing, involve fighters I 'care' about, and the story is intriguing. This is what boxing should be about (ideally on terrestrial TV but we're here now so who cares).

What other fights involving brit fighters would you pay to see?

Does this weekend mean that finally promoters are willing to put worthwhile matches together providing they are backed by the usual bunch of suckers (us boxing fans)?

I am away but I'd have bought it if I was around and if I had the option of Sky PPV. Unless there's a mega fight I think every PPV should have co main events to give fans their moneys worth and to help ensure the night is not spoiled if one of them doesn't live up to expectations.

If match room had a ppv that had Froch vs Degale, Barker vs Macklin, Brook vs mathew hatton with Gavin rees in a euro title fight and mike perez title fight then id pay 15 quid.

Lets be fair guys ,we are getting ripped off by this event being ppv ,the reasons why boxing is struggling against mma ,is because of events like this being ppv...we can thank greedy promoters like Warren for that .

PPV to watch 2 virtual british title fights? We are all getting robbed. Bet no one outside of uk buys this. My sky costs £70 per month and now I have to pay more to watch british guys fight. Better value from friday nite fights from USA.

This fight wasn't PPV before and it's most certainly not PPV now. Two domestic scraps, one involving a very late replacement. Not worth any additional money on top of a Sky sub.

Amen to that brother. Even the undercard fights are well matched on FNF.

Truth is, if Bomber didn't post on here this fight wouldn't be acceptable. People are fickle. Does anyone remember Bomber struggling his arse off against Ajisafe and McKenzie. As much as I want Tony to do well, he'll be dominated and probably stopped. It's a British title fight, IMO - nothing more.

I don't know why I am getting the feeling that people now prefer its Bomber and not Braehmer.

How is this a major step up for Degale, Groves is relatively unproven. How is Groves more proven than Smith.

Its a piss poor PPV. Worst Sky PPV ever, even worst than Klitchsko vs Sanders.

This is christmas for the fighters and the promoter collecting money off us. We should not support PPV for these low level fights full stop! Could watch stream or catch replay later in week in stead. stop FEEDING THE GREED.

I did have this feeling when Chisora vs Fury was re-going to purse bids it was going to be a PPV.

Danny McIntosh was probably more proven at English/British level before he fought a MUCH greener Cleverly. That was a more evn fight. Imagine Frank whacking that on as a PPV headliner. I don't care if Bellew was a late replacement, Sky should pull the PPV. Do they forget what happened regarding Khan?

Sheesh!

I thought so was Degale vs Groves - oops. This rivalarly has been simmering for years, get them on ringside a couple of time sepearately (talk about them other guy all the time). Get them on the show together.... bang PPV done.

You can see it now "they hate each other, they've avoided each for years, now the time has gone to set the record straight".... "Two of the finest prospects in world heavyweight boxing battle it out to see which one can go all the way to the top".

Ringside is overall a good show and good for the sport, but as we can see it is a vehicle to elevate fighters and fights to PPV status.

What ever way you look at it its double standards by sky if they keep this as PPV After dumping Khan-McCloskey of box office, admittingly these fights are more of a interest for us fans...non boxing fans will never heard of these, well maybe Degale...I said there was noway i was buying this but as its getting closer im arguing with myself if to get it or not :witzend:

Fury and Chisora don't seem to like each other, or at least pissed off with one another. Fury post fight interview after his last fight was great - it really got my up for a Chisora fight.

Degale is an Olympic Gold Medalist yeah true, but he is (perhaps surprisingly) not as big a star as Amir Khan and Audley Harrison. He recently fought on the undercard of a Ricky Burns world title fight, it was very much the undercard. Degale is not that well known.

Plus Fury and Chisora is at Heavyweight, and thats always a selling point.

I think that poor matchmaking (Haye-Harrison and Khan-McCloskey) and good matches with lesses names (DeGale-Groves) don't deserve to be on PPV. I did/will not pay to watch these on the strength of the matches.

I don't like PPV, but no one is holding a gun to my head, so I either pay or I don't. I will be buying the Haye-Klitschko fight and will be happy to do so.

But having to pay for the poor matches is only going to encourage people to get the lap-top out.

A lot of people will buy this so it is a PPV event becuase PPV is judged by how well it sells and this will sell well
