cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
Don't know if this is new information........
Cleverley has said that he wants Hopkins as his first title defence !!
I hope this isn't true, because Hopkins would be way too experienced and game enough for cleverley at this point in his career. Let's not forget that cleverley hasn't beaten a light heavy weight champion to get the title, which through no fault of his own slightly scars his achievement. Cleverley will have to face a top guy to prove he is worthy of the belt, but going after Hopkins will only see him lose it first time out and its a fight Bernard would go for because he could unify the division quite easily before going up to cruiserseight which I think is his next challenge. Its a pity cleverley couldn't fight braemer because he would have been capable of winning that fight and crowned the world champion without all the nonsense of being installed from being the interim champion. Cleverley won't last that long as light heavyweight champion, but I'd like to see him legitimise his championship before taking on the likes of Bernard Hopkins.

Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
I like the fact that he's ambitious, but he's trying to run before he can walk.
He's got a long way to go before he's ready for a Bernard Hopkins.

Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
No disrespect to Clev but Hopkins takes him to school worse than he did Pavlik.
To be fair from what I've read Cleverly says he hopes to fight Hopkins within the next few fights rather than right now. Still too soon for him IMO.

Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
earn the title first. he won it on a head clash. the ref should have let it go another round at least, if he wanted to help cleverly, because if the cut was too bad it should have been a technical decision.
no need to rush. but also no need to take too much time (as with calzaghe).
erdei would be a good test.

Clev might but his promotor won't that's for sure
Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
Id like to see him 'defend' the belt against Braehmer, but if that cant happen soon, maybe accept the challenge from Enzo Mac?

Typical FW bluster. Get his name out there with no intention of making the match. Bellew will be the next fight provided he gets past McKenzie. If he wins that he'll be bolstering PPV bills against mediocre imports for the forseeable.
If they didn't get Calzaghe the big fights for years there is no way they will risk Cleverly.

Good on him for wanting to fight the best but no way he beats Hopkins. What would Hopkins gain in taking this fight? Apart from the Warren Boxing Organisation title. Nothing.

Hopkins would school him. And if he hangs his chin out against Bellew as he did in the third round on Saturday, he will get knocked out.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Good on him for wanting to fight the best but no way he beats Hopkins. Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
Hopkins would destroy him. He would walk him onto shots all night, the way too beat Hopkins is calculated aggression and workrate, Clev is halfway there but he would get peppered coming in and tied up on the inside! Plus he got frustrated against Mohammedi, how much would Bernard frustrate him? Cleverly's defence is too leaky to stand a chance with Hopkins IMO, a dominant UD if the fight was ever made!
Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
^^ dunno about a UD I think Clev would get KOd at this stage of his career.
Still wanna see the Braehmer fight, but watching him fight Enzo Mac would be entertaining - Enzo wants and needs it way more than Clev though

No way is BHop next after Warren's cash cow just lost to a novice pro. Bellew will be next, probably on PPV
If Cleverly loses Frank would really be in the brown stuff.

Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
As someone else said in another thread, Cleverley is a highlight-reel KO waiting to happen. He's almost like the archetypal allegedly paper champion. Watching the way he bumbled around the ring on Saturday getting popped repeatedly by an unprepared bum, Hopkins would KO him in the first quarter of the fight without breaking sweat.

Hopkins? Sparked? You sure?
Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
Enzo macrinelli more like!
Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
Fcuk Braehmer. I know he'd be a decent challenge, but the crap he pulled last week means that he should be told where to go. There's plenty of similar types around for Cleverly to go for before he steps up to proper world title level against the likes of Pascal, Cloud and Hopkins. Someone like Diaconu, Erdei, Campillo, Gutknecht.subsy wrote:Id like to see him 'defend' the belt against Braehmer, but if that cant happen soon, maybe accept the challenge from Enzo Mac?
Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
He couldn't beat Hopkins if he had 5 arms.
Besides, he's got a bit of work to do before he's earned a shot at the (real) champ. This is just the usual b*llocks; saying all the big names but we all know he'll spend the next 5 years making mandatory defences against Latvian farm workers.

Definitely, fcuk Braehmer. Not sure if Maccarinelli is up to it, and not sure if i'd want to see it either.earsjohn wrote:Fcuk Braehmer. I'd like to see him in with Cloud, but I should think Bellew will end up being his next fight, in Wales or Liverpool. It makes sense, and my hunch is the promoter had it in his mind all along throughout the press conference business last week. Great PR stunt if he did.
Re: cleverley wants Hopkins next .........
Fight Bellew next because it is more interesting specticle that Enzo
