Please please help
I am hoping someone can help me.
I am trying to research my much loved grandfathers boxing record and i am not having a great deal of luck.
I have searched your site thorougly for hours looking to find any info that you may have on his records. I am unsure if he was a pro fighter if there was such a thing is the late 30s and that is why i can not find anything ?
He fought under the name of Goerge Johns and fought at both Fitzroy stadium and West melbourne stadium. His actual name was Wilfred James Price or Bill Price
His manager/Trainer was his father Mark Robert Price.
He also trained at a gym in Bourke street in Melbourne at the same Gym as a boxer called Vic Young.
I do have a very old scrap book that my grandmother kept for him of all the cuttings from newspapers of the days that has him listed as the best boy of the week but has no other details regarding his record. i also have his boxing shorts that i treasure more than anything in the world.
If any one can help me at all i would truley appreciate it as it would mean a geat deal to know what is record was and any other info any one could give me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this
Kind regards
Chris papadopoulos

Re: Please please help
There were a lot of boxers in Australian cities in the thirties. Records tended to get lost.

Thats the problem i am having
Re: Please please help
There was a bantamweight named George Johns, global ID 196069, who fought in Melbourne and Sydney between 1932 and 1940.
The number of fights listed for him seems short for that long a period of time, but a lot of old fighters claim "Boxrec" records are incomplete.

Have you tried to contact Past & Present Boxers Association of Victoria - Founded in 1939 ??Baileyzakk009 wrote:Thats the problem i am having
I haven't got contact details, but am sure Professional Boxing & Combat Sports Board of Victoria should be able to assist with that.

Re: Please please help
so a photo sent to the Past & Present Boxers Association of Victoria would help me ?
Re: Please please help
Yep, they certainly are. ATM, only former Kiwi editor Mike Attree, now residing in OZ, blows time going thru micro films @ Brisbane Library & constantly updates records of bygone years. What ain't there today, might very well be there tomorrow.Brute wrote:There was a bantamweight named George Johns, global ID 196069, who fought in Melbourne and Sydney between 1932 and 1940.

Yep! Posting it here might also help. You never know who might have an album of their granddad whom he fought.Baileyzakk009 wrote:so a photo sent to the Past & Present Boxers Association of Victoria would help me ?

It looks to me they've put two George Johns' records together. The first two fights were in 1932-33 in Sydney, the last two , in 1939-40 in Melbourne. Also in the later fights his weights were a stone lighter than the earlier fights (113 3/4 lbs-128 lbs).Brute wrote:There was a bantamweight named George Johns, global ID 196069, who fought in Melbourne and Sydney between 1932 and 1940.
