Boxing Photography Project
Alright guys I was wondering if you could help me out...
I've loved the sport since I was a kid and when I did my photography foundation course last year I did it on amateur boxing. You can see the best of the results here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sergelapel ... 6566/show/
I was hoping to follow it up by doing some work with pro fighters - anyone from beginners to journeymen. Does anyone have any contacts in the Manchester/North West area who would be interested? I haven't had much luck approaching people directly.
Cheers

speak to chris royle mate...he posts on here as real_deal... he is a pro photographer and will guide you in the right direction. chris often posts his work on here and is a nice approachable lad, although i would not let him babysit!!...
Re: Boxing Photography Project
Try Steve Wood, he is a nice guy and would probably let you take some photos at his fighters gym.

Class photos Chris, I especially like the one of Jon Thaxton after he's been scrapping. That's the sort of stuff I'm after, besides the usual gym stuff, I want to be able to show how the lads dedicate themselves, live and breathe boxing. I'll email VIP now, hopefully it pays off...

Loads of top blokes around Manchester that will let you take some photos mate. Steve Wood is a good shout. You could also try Joe Gallagher or Arnie Farnell. I'd message a few on facebook and twitter.
I'm off to see Joe Gallagher next week so you want me to mention it I will do.

I shoot with a rolleiflex TLR circa 1961 (fixed 80mm medium format - equivalent 50mm on a standard camera)

And a Nikon FM with a 50mm lens

If you want to practice photos of fights etc then most unlicensed promoters will let you in to do it .
When i went to damien huckers last show he had a student photographer turn up at the door and he let them in to do their photos etc without any problem , damien posts on here but hes in notts so id imagine thats a little too far to travel but i know hes got a show 6th april because ive got 2 lads on it .
