Maybe they were all overrated. Bar Eubank, who was just finished. In his day he would've smashed Calzaghe.

No he wasnt washed up.

But it says it all that Calzaghe's best win was a controversial stoppage, a fight in which he was floored.

Calzaghe's best years are behind him.

Dont get me wrong, I not down on British fighters.

IMO Hatton is the future, not Calzaghe.

Joe missed the boat with his whole career, he can forget about Hopkins because from Hopkins point of view "who the fornicate's Calzaghe"?
I just Hope Hatton takes a good long look at him and realises that's where he could be in a few years if he let's Warren make him sit back on a tinpot title like Joe did.
To be fair to him though, he (rh) seems to be taking no shit from fw.

I agree that Calzaghe may well struggle with Gonzalez.

The idea that Calzaghe will be seen in the ring with RJJ seems like pie in the sky.

controversial stoppage?from what i could see mitchell was finished,and it was that controversial mitchell said he had never been hit that hard by anyone

from that performance it showed me a few things i never knew about joe he has heart,and is also extremly dangerous when hurt.this guy is up there with the best 2004 will be his year.

Maybe some of our other fighters should start slapping, because it seems to work for Joe.....If i remember correctly Eubank was the favorite going into the fight....and he went on afterwards to take the best shots a big hitting cruiser(Carl Thompson) could give him.

Viet was overated...definetly
Mitchell is the hardest puncher in the division(barring Green possibly)...He wasnt stopped early(imo)....if you watch the fight...his eye`s and his guard where everywhere...the guy didnt know what the hell happend.

I don't want to go Bryon Mitchell slagging, two-time world champion and all that. I gave Calzaghe credit when it took place, and continue to do so.

However, of all of Ottke victories in 2003, that was the most clear cut - regardless of what the judges saw. Ottke won that one clearly, even more clearly than he beat Starie (IMO).

I still think Larsen is possibly the dangerman in the division.

Calzaghe does slap IMO, occasionally and usually in the middle of a combination that contains upwards of ten legit punches.

Not sure of i am right but aren't judges/ref's supposed to warn/deduct for slapping anyway?

I have never seen him warned or whatever and I've seen just about all his fights.

His stoppage rate is a bit high for someone who isn't punching correctly, although that also reflects his finishing skills, in terms of throwing enough punches to bring the Ref into play.

who cannot punch put granite-chinned Eubank on the seat of his pants
and hurt him repeatedly.

Christ I've seen Eubank eat shots off Carl Thompson, who despite his shortcoming was a huge hitter and that was at cruiserweight.

Oh, and I have to agree with regard to Mitchell, his eyes were rolling
all over the place and his legs were going in 8 directions at once, sure
the ref could have allowed it to continue, but the end was nigh anyway.

I get the feeling Calzaghe won't go through with his mandatory defence against that mystery Armenian. He'll move up to light-heavy and fight a 10-rounder on the Cardiff bill in February instead. Just a hunch. I've been wrong before.

That was my very suggestion to what he should have done in December instead of pulling out. It will need to be a fairly decent opponent though to justify topping the bill?

He may slap but he defintely punches hard too. I wonder what effect his shots will have at light heavy.
He must be killing himself to make 168 if he's moving up now. The big fights at suoer-middle are suddenly there, and he's moving to the even more barren 175 division.
I'm sure he'd like to take on the two Aussie title holders, he'd likely beat both of them too.
When it comes to big fights, Joe seems to be forever on the outside looking in.
