Bellew performance

Post by Camcas »

Was wondering what people thaught about his performance? For me that was hugely dissapointing he looked like he was scared of McKenzie's power and that made for a dull fight. He called it a masterclass really?? He showed he can outbox Ovill McKenzie but he did even then get hit one or two times by a guy that didnt turn up. I don't doubt he will get a shot against Cleverly next, but if i was him id steer well clear of that because he is not only going to lose that fight but Cleverly would hurt him and after that boring performance the fight won't sell that well.

Think he needs to pick his performances up quick because his last three fights he hasn't impressed at all

I think it was safe, that's a positive and negative depending how you look at it. It's like his new trainers looked at bellews last few fights and just went totally the opposite way with him, which takes away a lot of his appeal to be honest.

Positives : He stuck to a gameplan, he never looked in any danger, he won the fight comfortably

Negatives: It was dull, he didn't overly impose himself on his opponent

He can't win to be honest, he throws those awful huge overhand rights looking for a KO and he gets slated, he sticks to a game plan and boxes for 12 rounds and gets slated. This fight was a no win situation in fairness, is he ready for Cleverly = No, is he ready to move up a level = Yes. I think he is 2 fights away from a title shot, I understand he wants it now (who wouldn't, it is a huge pay day) but why not wait a while so he gives himself the best chance of winning.

What masterclass?? i nearly fell asleep watching that&lost a fair bit on a inside victory!! Bomber should forget about Clev for the time being&maybe face Mcintosh at the start of the new season...Noway does he deserve a title shot on that showing!!

Yeh he got the job done and there was no drama. He's British and Commonwealth champion so it's onwards and upwards. I think the change of trainer has done him good, Farnell couldn;t seem to get him to calm down or offer him great tactical advice, tonight was much improved compared to the last fight I agree with what Tony said in the interview about that.

Just maybe we needed a bit more punch output from Tony and it would have made it more impressive. Overall though, job done, move on to the next fight. It's a positive step that Tony boxed to a plan and didn't get involved in a tear up.

Agree he's not ready for Cleverly yet though. Bellew McIntosh would be a guranteed barn burner, even if Bellew wants to box, you know McIntosh would try and make it a slugfest and bring much more than McKenzie.

Did the job, needs to get back in there quickly - not cleverly, maybe even a "tough Ghanian" in defence of his commonwealth title. What concerned me a tad was that he claimed he didn't throw any power shots at all. I'm glad he address that telegraphed overhand right happy problem that has been picked up on.... but is that his only power shot? Surely he other "bombs" that don't have to be telegraphed that can be worked as part of a combination. Worried me a bit a boxer admit that he didn't throw his hardest shots. Not suggesting that he is saying porkies, but why not at least try a land a couple. There is a big difference between the overhand right happy fighter that has had some criticisms and a fighter occasionally mix up the power levels.

Was he a tad gunshy as a result of the problems he had last time with McKenzie..... thats why I want to see a confidence booster next time.

Ovil was pretty poor last time aside from the knockdowns - he didn't even follow them up.

It wouldn't be bad - although I think McIntosh's achievements of late might inflate the hype more about Bellew and I don't think he needs this immediately. McIntosh's achievements outweigh his performances in the ring by some distance. I don't think Bellew needs at this stage "now Bellew has just beaten a former European champion - we love him". Bellew needs some confidence boosters but not ego boosters if you get what I mean..... get it so sky are saying "good performance, but the guy was an unknown quantity".... I would say McIntosh before the year's end.... and then look at what should be European level class (even if they are not European).

Bob Asijafe again. He won English Title with a 3rd round stoppage of Stubbs tonight.

Tony did what he had to do to win. At the end of the day, all that matters is that he won and he was under a lot of pressure to win. Can he perform better? Of course he can. Would he perform the same way against Cleverly? I don't think so.

If that is the next fight, Cleverly Vs Bellew, then I don't think Bellew can win if he fights in a similar style to Saturday night. I'd fancy Cleverly to win on points if he did. I'm sure Bellew would be going out there to ring Nathan's clock in a real tear up. The question is, if the pressure of winning against McKenzie got to Bellew, how would fighting for a World Title get to him?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I fight for me and my kids! I don't fight to be in classics everytime! I'll do that when I have to! I wanted more excitement but let's not forget if I'm winning every round then it's up to him to do something about it!! Not me!! I'm happy but like I say I love excitement and knockouts but I can't knock everybody out.. Styles make fights and we'll see something different next time IMO ;-)

Thanks again for the support ;-) appreciated ;-)

Great job! You did well Tony! I had a bet on you and I am very happy with your win. I will be rooting for you when you will fight Nathan.

You've also got to look at McKenzie, he's a very strong fella who had Bellew down twice in the last fight. Anyone wanting to watch a tear-up should watch a re-run of the first fight. McKenzie would be a test for most people at LH. When you've got bigger fights on the horizon, it would be mental to fight the same way as last time. Entertaining for us fans? Yes! But for Tony, the victory is all that mattered last night.

Well done Tony, test passed. Can't wait to see you in there with Nathan, hopefully ripping that title away from him! I'd suggest even if it's not the next fight to keep the weight down in case his next opponent pulls out haha!

It reminded me of when Haye fought Ismail Abdoul. Very poor fight to watch. However, if he gets a fight with Cleverly, it will be different, for the very fact that Cleverly will not fight like mcKenzie.

Good to see he can box when he has too, though I would say he appears much better when he holds his feet and let the combinations fly.
