Esteban DeJesus HOF?
Esteban DeJesus HOF?
At 58-5, take a look at his record and see who he fought and more importantly, who those loses came against.
Really really close to being a HOF'er. Very very good fighter.

He definately should be in the hall. If Barry McGuigan is in, he should be in, too.

Ugh, I hate it when people say this. The question is "SHOULD" DeJesus be in the hall . . McGuigan SHOULD NEVER have been inducted. Just b/c he's in doesn't mean the standards should lower for everyone else.elmersalsa wrote:He definately should be in the hall. If Barry McGuigan is in, he should be in, too.:x
That said, I think he did enough to get into the HOF legit. Beating a prime Duran is pretty big.

If IBHOF will continue to induct 3 boxers a year, he will get in.
It seems 3 inductees a year gives too much chances for others..
If IBHOF trims it down to 2-inductees a year (which I agree), DeJesus will have a hard time.

Re: Esteban DeJesus HOF?
If he got in he sure wouldn't be the worst fighter in the HOF. Realistically speaking he certainly isn't the most deserving fighter not to make it in yet.
Re: Esteban DeJesus HOF?

Re: Esteban DeJesus HOF?
Terrific boxer with excellent left hook and underrated punching power. Great ring generalship and technique. Only man to beat the great Roberto Duran when Duran was in his prime. Duran was also in his best state...No excuses.
Lost to 4 men. All of them world champions: Duran, Antonio Cervantes, Antonio Gomez and Saoul Mamby
Puerto Rican Lightweight champion
USBA Lightweight champion
WBC World Lightweight Championship
Won over 58 fights.
Beat good opposition like Duran, Ishimatsu Suzuki, Alfonso "Peppermint" Frazer, Edwin Viruet, and Ray Lampkin
Only man in Duran's prime to fight him 3 times. He had 3 classic fights with Duran
Only man that dropped Duran in his prime...And did it twice.
At lightweight, he only lost 2 fights...And those losses were only to Duran's...No shame on that. I consider him one of the 20 best lightweights of all-time. He had enough fights there and he proved that he was very good. He should be in the hall.

Say it ain't so, Elmer. The man with no end to excuses (Duran), without one? Call the Police, the Fire Brigade! Anyone!!! We gotta find an excuse somewhere. This is a Duran loss we're talking about, people!!!elmersalsa wrote:Terrific boxer with excellent left hook and underrated punching power. Great ring generalship and technique. Re: Esteban DeJesus HOF?
Hall of famer in my eyes. Beat a top ten all timer in his prime. Didn't lose to anyone other than a HOF'er or a red-hot fighter at the time.
Put him in the books.

Re: Esteban DeJesus HOF?
Like I said, I'd have no problem with him getting in, but he's certainly not the most deserving. From LW alone, Charley White, Lockport Jimmy Duffy, Willie Joyce, and Paddy DeMarco have better credentials.

He beat Duran fair and square...No excuses. He is the only one that beat Duran at his best state and in his prime. De Jesus was an excellent fighter.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Say it ain't so, Elmer.
