Re: Crossfit Games 2011
I'm really starting to get into cross-fit. Been doing it only once a week for the last 8 or so weeks, but am going to have to start trying to do more and fit it in around my other training - even if it's just the WOD every morning or something. It's scary addictive ![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)

That's great to hear mate. Funnily enough, I'm almost mirroring you in reverse in that I got addicted to crossfit a couple of years ago and I'm now falling for BJJ! Started back about three weeks ago post-shoulder rehab and just conscious of how much there is to learn. Frustrating being such an utter 'newbie', but exciting at the same timeEddieShredder wrote:I'm really starting to get into cross-fit. I started at 30, and the main difference I notice is just that my body doesn't hold up nearly as well as the young'unsDeserter wrote:Just gets a bit harder when you're nearly 40jonoevansla wrote:Nice one - good luck with that! Cross fit today was a beast.. loved it:
Dynamic warm up/stretching.
Deads, sets of 3reps of 60kg,70,80,90,95,100,105. In between each set, 3 standing broad jumps.
Then 10sets (max air squats in 10secs, 60 secs rest), then 10 sets (max push ups in 10secs, 60secs rest)
Was a killer.

Nice work Eddie! Funnily enough I'm starting Hatha yoga tomorrow as I was thinking it makes sense to do it once a week as 'active recovery' and to aid my flexibility. I did Tae Kwon Do for eight years when I was younger and in terms of flexibility used to be able to do side splits and was just off box splits etc, but needless to say that was a long time agoEddieShredder wrote:I started at 30, and the main difference I notice is just that my body doesn't hold up nearly as well as the young'unsDeserter wrote:Just gets a bit harder when you're nearly 40jonoevansla wrote: Nice one - good luck with that! Stretching is the key I found Deserter, warming up and down properly... and the biggest difference was when I started rolling without strength rather than trying to smash everything.

I just have to be careful to hit that balance between the enthusiasm that comes with starting something new you love, and recognising that I have to give myself enough recovery time. Worst thing at the moment is that it's different training times for Ramadan, so last night was rolling from 10-11pm! Went in the gym tonight and just did 5x5 of 70kg thrusters - an evil movement if ever there was some. Then just did some static handstand holds against the wall and 3x10 'toes to bar' for core work.
