Frowned upon by who? A win is a win anyway you can get it. Stoping your opponent is one way to take the decision out of the hands of the judges. Because of the gloves that are worn and I guess the headgear to an extent, KO's don't happen much in the amateurs but beating your opponent to the point of the ref stopping it (RSC) happens plenty in amateur boxing.chainlightning wrote:Hopefully this isn't a dumb question, but I was wondering if just trying to win by stopping your opponent is frowned upon. I heard that from somebody that's why I'm asking.
Are knockouts discouraged in the amateurs?

However, the goal in amateur boxing is, generally, to outpoint your opponent. KOs happen but an amateur boxer can't depend on them to win. Really have to know how to box. ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
