Lopopolo and De Piccoli benefit Onesti Law

Post by Gherardo Bonini »

Dear friends,
as somebody did read in my e-dialogue about Mitri's tragic death, Italian Parliament just approved in 2001 a Law, varying Bacchelli Law, that awarding a monthly allowance to people honouring country. This variation names Onesti Law. Giulio Onesti was for several years President of the Italian Olympic Committee, an official with international prestige. Probably somebody accustom with baroque procedures for making operational in Italy a Law. So, today the first wages have been paid. Five former sportpersons benefitted, among them former World junior middleweight champion Sandro Lopopolo and Olympic heavy champion 1960 Francesco De Piccoli. In fact, some clauses himpered to award profits of Bacchelli Law to all sportspersons, in particular for boxing. In fact, also the Onesti Law keeps a paragraph that the person to be benefitted must have no judiciary marks and pending condemnations. However, Onesti Law permits a parliamentarian debate when a practical occasion involve a former great champion, instead Bacchelli Law excluded 'a priori' that last chance. It is a great merit of Nino Benvenuti to have fought, this time outside the ring but likely proficency, for separate sportspersons to artists, scientists and other celebrities. When Duilio Loi puts on sale his belt as World champion because he was desperated, same Benvenuti, former cyclist champion Magni and former fencer Edo Mangiarotti (Italian recordman with 13 Olympic medals in total, 6 golden) helped him and his daughter to recover the situation. Loi suffers of Alzheimer's disease. The three glorious past champions constituted a foundation asking, through the media, popular contributions, but they realized that without an institutional support, they should have met a failure in helping many former champions fallen in disgrace.
Yours friendly
