Burns vs. Broner is ON for November 26 in Cincinnati

Post by crusader »

It looks as if Ricky Burns will defend his WBO title in Cincinnati against mandatory challenger and Cincinnati resident Adrien Broner. The bout will take place on November 26 and be televised on HBO.

Thoughts? I like Broner to win, especially now that the fight will be in his backyard.

Very bad move by Burns to fight Broner (an Al Heymon-managed fighter) in his hometown in the US.

Ricky will need a KO to win, and he's not a big puncher. This fight should be in Scotland.

If this is true then my respect for Burns will go up massively and despite being the underdog in the fight i think he'll also make it a much closer fight then most people think although i'd still go for a Broner win by points or late stoppage.

It will be interesting to see the betting lines for this one. I think there could be a good price on a Broner decision win. Would love to see Ricky pull it off but I can't see it to be honest.

would take something special to pull this one off, if burns' team are brave enough to take this challenge on and come out on top then id enjoy seeing people admit that he's the real deal.

It's a risk free fight with a huge upside. Firstly its on hbo which means major us exposure and money. Second if he wins he's suddenly a name in the states with huge fights at lw to look foward to. If he loses theres nothing stopping him coming home and making great money leathering john murray, Alex Arthur and Kevin Mitchell all over the place.

Don't see any reason burns can't win, broner hasn't done anything as impressive as burns' win over martinez. Well done Ricky, great news!

A first round KO over Jason Litzau is impressive. Martinez is a good fighter, but he's been made into some sort of monster, rather than a limited slugger who was hurt and schooled at times by Nicky Cook. Burns' win over Martinez was much more surprising than Broner's win over Litzau, but I'm not sure that it was more impressive if looked at in terms of both the comparative quality of Litzau and Martinez, and the manner in which they were defeated.

The fight should be in Scotland defo. It would be a tough enough fight over here. But alot of respect to Burns for going to defend in Broners back yard. Hope he pulls it off.

I would be very surprised if Warren allowed this......surely there is a dangerous Ghanian out there that deserves the shot more.

Credit to Burns and his camp if this is true. Very dangerous fight if this plays out and even more so in the US as well. Good luck Ricky, time to show if he is in the league he has been talking about.

So has this moved from probable to confirmed?

Remember Martinez fight was to be in Puerto Rico but these things change very quickly

Great fight. Very risky Burns, full credit for taking the fight considering the circumstances he'll be fighting in.

I'd have to lean towards a late stoppage or close pts win for Broner.

highlights warren's current issues.

no way would this fight have gone abroad a few yrs back.

especially as burn's holds the title.

warren would have went to purse bids on it.

now he settles the fight for the other guys hometown.

haha

surprised that this fight will be in america. i thought warren liked to make sure to keep his guys in their title.

could be an ugly fight. burns has improved a lot but can be a bit of an octopus. and apart from the recent KO punch of litzau, broner can also be very ungainly.

hope burns doesn't lose his title, in america, in a stinker. he certainly is capable of good things, going by the fight with the puerto rican.

good to see a brit in a genuine test, vs a deserved contender.

It certainly raises some questions about FW Promotions. I might be wrong, but I get the feeling FW might be cashing in slightly by taking the HBO dollar

Credit to Ricky for taking it though, however, going to Broner's hometown is a big ask.

Every credit to Ricky taking the fight, I'm sure he'll do great. Billy knows what he's doing and he watches every fighter stringently... He knows what Rickys capable of and I think he wins too

That is tremendous news. Even better considering I will be in Cincinnati working wih some athletes in the build-up and after the fight.

Billy, I don't know if you've ever been to Cincinnati before but I know just the place for you to go to celebrate after Ricky retains his title.

If anyone is looking for a fight to get abroad for this year then you can do worse than Cincinnati. Having lived there I can confirm that it's a pretty decent night out.

well played to ricky tough ask but most people said the same before martinez me included and was suprised at how good he looked in winning, how much he has improved since becoming champ is hard to tell since he's not been tested really, broner i've only seen once and while the way he took litzue out was impresive it's hard to judge him on that alone but he looks quick and he can punch, and de leon looks a good win on paper. hope ricky does win though he allways comes across well and seems like a genuinely all right bloke.
