Martin Murray , sturm, macklin

Post by Japp »

This couldn't happen to a nicer lad ! He won prize fighter with the worse draw and with the other finalist having good rest and look what happened in the light middle weights the fresher kid won , look the one before buckland ko Mathews because he was tired . But Martin won against all the odds . You also get him beating guys who had been in with champions and highly rated guys and Martin did better jobs on them than any of them . He was restricted he couldn't get near the British because barker wouldn't let go of it or defend it , macklin was on different route but as we all know Martin accepted to fight macklin on the khan show but macklin rejected to fight sturm instead so let's settle something Martin would fight anyone in Britian but politics wouldn't allow so he goes and stops a couple of boxers ranked with the WBA . Then the British is vacant so he disposes of the English champion , not martins fault Blackwell was inexperienced . I'm a great fan of him and every level increase he as adapted and wore down all the opponents he fights . This is hard fight but where macklin wasted a lot of shots Martin won't . so Martin wins evything available , accepts fights against the best in Britian shows heart of a lion in p fighterand even goes to fight strum in his own back yard . Do we need to say anything else? Please let's not compare macklin to Murray this is Murray vas sturm ! December 2nd

Yeah, best of luck to him. I think he has the style to cause problems but not sure if he has the natural strength if I am being honest. I think people have underated Sturm a tad after the Macklin fight and seen him as a very beatable champion. Macklin fought inspired that night, nobody can deny his effort - at the end of the night though it was Sturm who looked the closer to getting the KO. Lets not forget Sturm took the Macklin onslaught well and still had something left at the end to nearly put it out of the judges hands. Macklin has been known to punch himself out before, and Murray is relatively untested in that area - perhaps he can do 12 rounds at a pace better than Macklin.

It is hard to believe Murray is 28 - he is a fresh 28, just I have some doubts about his strength at the weight. I keep stating that he is going to be someone hard to beat (at world level) when he gets his man strength - but I keep forgetting he is 28.

I really like Murray, he is a top lad and very comiited to boxing. I visited Olivers a while back and saw what he was like and it only improved my impression of him. Come on Martin, show the world how good you are.

I agree 100% that Sturm is being well underated following his win against an inspired macklin - funny how Macklins best two performances are arguably plucky defeats, but thats another story. I do however think Martin hits a lot harder than his record suggests, I remember him KO ing someone on a small hall show in about his 3rd or 4th pro fight, the knckout was brutal, im not even sure if Martin broke his hand or wrist in delivering the punch, I'd need to check back. I seem to remember he was back in the gym trainign one handed when he did break his wrist though. Since then Ive seen him a few times in the gym, and he appears to be delivering telling shotswhen he sits down on them. Perhaps he'll sit down on his punches more agianst Sturm.

Good luck Martin.

Sorry to be the dissenting voice here as I'd love a British fighter to overcome the odds, but I just can't see it. There's an understandable tendency to want to put on the rose-tinted specs, but anyone who looks at it objectively would have to favour a wide points win for Sturm.
