...when we watch old fight films and the fight goes the distance, the ring announcer says..and winner is......" and gives the name. no breakdown of rounds, who won how many....just picks up the judges cards and says the name. This is because the breakdown of the official cards wasn't announced until february 9, 1944 when announcer George Cobb gave the individual rounds for each each fighter...in this case tippy larkin over Lulu Costello. This was at madison square garden, and if they were announced elsewhere before that i can't find a mention of it. although they weren't announced before that the breakdown was given to the sportswriters.
