IBO lightweight champion Jason Cook makes the first defence of his title against Commonwealth lightweight champion Kevin Bennett at the Bridgend Recreation Centre on February 28.
Local man Cook won his fringe world title in November last year with an impressive stoppage of Argentina's Ariel Olveira.
Hartlepool's Bennett won his Commonwealth title on the same night, surviving two horrifying final rounds when blood from a broken nose congealed in his throat and affected his breathing, to outpoint Kenya's Michael Muya.
Chief supporting contest sees Dazzo Williams defend his British featherweight title against Jamie McKeever.
This is what we want. Two cracking domestic showdowns.

I'm impressed with Cook's attitude, he came out of jail and KO'd Casamonica and has not looked back since, he certainly has not taken things easy either. After the Casamonica fight he cashed in on new found local interest and smashed away Nasser Lakrieb and then beat a very good former world champion in Stefano Zoff (and i thought he did win that fight), then he beat Ariel Oliveira and now is facing Kevin Bennett. With David Burke, Bobby Vanzie and Graham Earl arguing the case for No.1 Lightweight spot in Britain it is time for "unification" matches. Keep up the good work Jason

I just feel sorry for Bennett. It is not a good fight. Cook is going to destroy him. Bennett is weight drained. Thank god Muya wasnt a puncher or Bennett could have been in serious trouble.

I like the fact two brits are getting it on, but i feel Bennett doesnt belong here. No offense to him, he is a good pro, but I am just worried about him boiling down to the weight, cook wont be a repeat of Muya.

Honestly I hope to see a good match up, but I just hope the ref does a good job.

I dont know about anyone else, but I can only see one winner. and I really hope Bennett doesnt get in trouble.

I agree with your post. Bennett showed all the classic signs of being weight drained in his last fight, and if Muya could dig, Bennett would have been taken out in those final rounds for sure. In my opinion, Bennett looked ordinary throughout the fight, and was lucky to have been facing a weak opponent. He is extremely lucky to be called champion of the Commonwealth.

I don't see this fight going long; you can expect to see Cook win within 5 rounds; probably even earlier than this; he is in a different class to Bennett.

Bennett should go back to his natural weight class, light welter.
