will you all now accept??
floyd mayweather is a boxing god, you wont see his like again for a long time and no1 repeat no1 will beat him except floyd himself. he played wiv juan after time out of the ring pac man wud get his arse handed to him on last nights display
Re: will you all now except??
There's no logic to what you're saying mate. Just because another fighter has shown flaws, ergo it doesn't follow that someone not fighting is elevated to new heights.kells wrote:floyd mayweather is a boxing god, you wont see his like again for a long time and no1 repeat no1 will beat him except floyd himself. he played wiv juan after time out of the ring pac man wud get his arse handed to him on last nights display
Mayweather is the best of our generation, I've no doubt about that, but I thought he'd beat Pacman before last night so nothing's changed there. However, he's not a 'boxing god' - to achieve that status he'd have to have a ledger like Leonard or Duran, where he's faced fellow greats and triumphed. By your own admission, there aren't the fighters around to present that type of challenge to him. If he'd been in the era of Leonard, Hearns etc, he wouldn't have an undefeated record IMO.

Be careful about thinking such things.kells wrote:floyd mayweather is a boxing god, you wont see his like again for a long time and no1 repeat no1 will beat him except floyd himself. he played wiv juan after time out of the ring pac man wud get his arse handed to him on last nights display
History is littered with examples of fighter A being supposedly better than fighter B, because fighter A looked bad against or lost to fighter C etc.
Think of Ali, Frazier, Foreman & Norton?
On your logic, Ali had no right to even share a ring with Foreman, let alone actually beat him in 1974.
It's all about styles.
I have always believed that Floyd had to skills to beat Pacquiao, but I don't think he truly has the belief, otherwise the fight would have happened in 2008 or 2009.

Well In my opinion the way u make ur judgement on a fighter is how they performer in past fights. Now I agree just coz 1 duz 1 thing to an opponent it won't reflect on ther fight but I thought he'd win b4 and this fight has only strengthened my belief! We also make are decisions on who we thinks best by imagining the outcome of fights that won't ever happen so on that basis I think who ever floyd came up against he'd win and I think he's a boxing god and I cnt see any1 ever beating him

And I think ul find many many boxing experts didn't feel Ali shud be in ther. U just get it wrong sometimes
Re: will you all now except??
Go and watch some Sugar Ray Leonard - everything that Floyd's got plus a better punch and 'killer instinct'.kells wrote: I think who ever floyd came up against he'd win and I think he's a boxing god and I cnt see any1 ever beating him
Go and watch Hearns' fights at Welter and let me know how you'd think Floyd would have coped with his height/reach, his boxing ability and, of course, his murdererous punching power.
Can't comment on the Sugar Ray Robinsons and Henry Armstrongs of this world as I haven't seen enough footage, but their legacies far outshine the Pretty Boy's.

Re: will you all now except??
Personally, I think Marquez simply has Manny's number. They could fight 100 x at any weight and it would always be close. Same as Roy Jones and Antonio Tarver, Mohammed Ali and Ken Norton etc. In the fight against Mosley, Mosely just didn't want to fight and in this fight Marquez just has his number. Imo this will have no bearing on a Floyd Mayweather fight. In fact, Pac's perceived poor showings in his last 2 fights may finally be the catalyst for Mayweather to fight Pac.

You're perfectly entitled to your opinion & they're all valid, but I have to agree with other posters who have said that Mayweather not be undefeated if he had been born in 1957 as opposed to 1977.kells wrote:Just my opinion guys, iv watched boxing since I started doing it as a kid and I still think floyd is 1 of the best ever to box! There's no way he'd still have a '0' as a welterweight if he had faced a peak Hearns, Leonard or Duran.
He'd have had his hands full with even lesser big welterweights like Donald Curry & maybe even a lighter guy like Pryor IMO.
Re: will you all now except??
If Floyd had balls the size of his ability , yes he would be a legend.
The fact is, only now will Floyd fight Pacquiao after Marquez has showed that a basic 1-2 counter approach, will nullify Pac's confidence.
The pacman was praying, his wife crying - his team panicking = he lost last night. It was close, but they knew they failed to produce.
Fact is now, Pac aint got a prayer against a guy who's a dick. It's going to be a stinker of a fight fo sho.

Re: will you all now except??
I think the point about the hands is a fair one as we've seen that with Calzaghe as well. I'm not so convinced about the chin though as while Moseley is a stiff puncher he's not a one-shot KO artist and is a world away from the likes of Hearns.kells wrote:I think wiv floyds bad hands and the fact he plays wiv alot of opponents means he'd hav a much better ko record and wiv the shot Mosley hit him wiv he's shown a concrete chin
Re: will you all now except??
Floyd is the more skilled fighter, but Manny has the better resume and will go down as a better fighter than Floyd

More exciting to watch Id say,Camcas wrote:Floyd is the more skilled fighter, but Manny has the better resume and will go down as a better fighter than Floyd
But Marquez hasn't improved - he just hasn't faded so badly as Pac's recent wins.
Most of them retired now.

Re: will you all now except??
Mayweather is very good, of that there's no doubt, but I think he gets by (and is hard to hit) due to his illegal or at least borderline actions. His defence (apparently his best attribute) consists of repeatedly ducking below the belt and turning his back. Now, in boxing, the back is not a legal target, so when he tucks his chin in, turns his shoulder - there is no target available.
Re: will you all now except??
Mayweather is a completely different fighter to Marquez, but after last night I'm now on the ''Floyd wins if it happens'' train.
I did say prior to the fight that Manny's improvement has been overstated, with a few carefully selected opponents since the 2nd JMM fight, but put the last three iffy performances down to the attitude of the opponent, looking more for manlove than to win a boxing match, and Manny not really being up for it.
It would be unfair to really write Manny off, Marquez could be 50 years old and would still trouble him, a counter puncher willing to stand his ground with excellent footwork. At the end of the day it wasn't as if he was taken the distance and struggled with a bum, Marquez is still one of the top 2/3 in the world at any weight.
He's definitely lost a little something since the stunning display against Cotto.

The same criticism was levelled at Pernell Whittaker and while there's something in it, there's nothing to stop other fighters adopting the same tactics in principle.reggaereggae wrote:Mayweather is very good, of that there's no doubt, but I think he gets by (and is hard to hit) due to his illegal or at least borderline actions. Re: will you all now except??
I would still have taken the 2009 version of Manny that beat Hatton and Cotto to have beaten the 2009 version of Mayweather, since then Manny has been involved in politics and you simply can't give your energies to both and be the best at both. I have noticed he seems to have lost interest in boxing lately and just going through the motions plus lost that spark and killer instinct he had a few years back plus it just may be a natural disintergration due to age.kells wrote:floyd mayweather is a boxing god, you wont see his like again for a long time and no1 repeat no1 will beat him except floyd himself. he played wiv juan after time out of the ring pac man wud get his arse handed to him on last nights display
I did think Manny fought the right tactics against Marquez the first few rds by taking on the counter puncher role, it made it a boring fight but took away Marquezs ability to counter himself but then his natural agressive instinct kicked in and the fight went to type. If he played the counter puncher role against Mayweather and has the discipline to do it for the full 12 rds then i still think he could beat Floyd but as i mentioned i just don't think he has the love for the sport anymore to do that.

Re: will you all now except??
Mayweather is small weltwerweight, so I can't see him beating Leonard or Hearns.kells wrote:ok chaps... peak pac, peak mayweather and peak rest of the guys u all mentioned where would use put mayweather and pac in the list then?? u realy dont think mayweather could of beat any of the super 4??
Leonard does everything that Mayweather can, but is bigger, physically stronger & can be much more aggressive if necessary.
Hearns would be Mayweather's worst nightmare at 147. Hearns is as fast, if not faster & can box just as well, plus has frightening power, along with being much bigger, so I can't see Floyd, or any other small welterweight beating Hearns.
I can see him beating Duran at 147, as Mayweather would not be as daft as Leonard to try & slug it out with Duran, but that's it really.
As I've said previously, he beats Pacman, but only if he believes he can.
