Who did you have winning?

Post by The REAL McCoy »

...The Dariusz Michalczewski/Julio Gonzalez fight?

McCoy watched it live on ZDF a few months back, & felt that Dariusz should have got the nod, & also heard that the Eurosport commentator(not Steve Holdsworth) scored it for Dariusz as well

For any of you that seen it, how did you think it went?

I missed it live McCoy, and ZDF only showed highlights next day so couldn't tell.
I was very surprised when Julio got the verdict though, as a close one like that usualy goes to the German homefighter of course, like old Sven for instance.
I did notice Darius took the verdict well, didn't seem to be complaining at all..
At least it showed a visiting fighter can get a points win in Germany these days.

I bet those judges will not be welcome back anytime in Germany! Obviously they were not adequately bribed. It's rather ironic that after all the dodgy decisions over time for German fighters, they score against Dariusz in a close fight when he is fighting to equal Marciano's record. Weird :o

I have heard that Dariusz, born and bred in Poland, has never been as popular in Germany as other outsiders (namely, the Klitschkos). He's fondly-regarded in Germany, but doesn't raise their passions. It didnt help either that he beat Graciano Rocchigiani controversially (seeming to cheat his way to victory that night). He's definitely the only German-based fighter I know in recent times to lose his title on a close decision.

Did you see how bad Michalczewski's acting was in that first fight with Rocchigiani bennie?

It was hilarious, a nothing punch on the break, & Dariusz was staggering about the ring like a Friday night drunk!

His acting was so bad it was up there with Dan Sherry just after Eubank head butted him

But Dariusz looked great in the rematch against Rocchigiani, beating Rocky in a memorable war, in which manny Steward said "it was one of the best battles I have ever seen"

I thought DM nicked the fight, it was a close one. I would have tipped DM in a rematch.

didnt see the fight but i spoke to my brother (who is pretty good at scoring fights) and Elvis Michailenko who both said Michalczewski won the fight.

Michalczewski did himself no favours in Germany by suddenly becoming polish again a couple of years ago.... however he practically made Universum and still sells out 10000 seater arenas. he earns a fortune too!!!!
