More free boxing on Youtube this Friday
http://news.boxrec.com/news/2011/mckerv ... -tv-friday
There is more live boxing on YouTube this Friday night (18th November) as Hatton TV brings you live and exclusive coverage of the Midlands Area welterweight title fight between Sean McKervey & Jason Welborn in the latest in the Friday Fight Night series.
Coventry's McKervey defends the belt he won when he outpointed Kevin McCauley in his home city last December. Since then two successive defeats have halted his progress but he is determined to get back on track at Walsall Town Hall on Friday night.
"I'll be coming back with a bang. I'm massively motivated and I can't wait to defend my title." said McKervey
Challenger Jason Welborn from Tividale sees this as his chance to finally make a mark as a professional. With seven wins and just one defeat on his record he will be challenging for a belt for the first time.
"It means a lot to me. I've trained hard and to win the Midlands would be a stepping stone. I'm 25 now and I want bigger things. I am at my peak and I want to get on."
The title fight will be preceeded by the long awaited return to the ring of former English lightweight champion Martin Gethin against Poland's Arek Malek.
Gethin has not fought since April last year when back problems forced him to undergo surgery. Now in front of his hometown crowd he needs to prove his recovery is permanent and then launch a bid for more title chances. The back injury cost him a chance of a British title fight but he sees no reason why those opportunites should not come around again.
"A comeback after 18 months out is not going to be easy," he says. There'll be some ring rust but I feel fairly sharp and in good shape. "The one thing I want is that British title. Its a beautiful belt and it will be a good fight whoever it is against."
Also on the bill promoted by PJ Rowson is Saquib Amir, the featherweight from Halesowen aka "Zak The Ripper" who made his name as an unlicensed fighter before turning pro aged 28.
All the action from Walsall Town Hall will be streamed live on the Hatton YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/hattonboxing <http://www.youtube.com/hattonboxing> <https://remote.brandhatton.com/owa/redi ... ttonboxing> from 9pm with commentary from Phil Duffell & former British flyweight champion Micky Cantwell.

I really admire the way the Hattons are going the extra yard to get publiicity for their shows but I wonder how long it can go on for, my understanding is they're paying the production costs for these shows and they won't be anything like cheap. Fair play to them though

McKervey's fight if he can survive the five or six-round attack from Welborn, who i expect to start gassing at that stage. Good ten-rounder.

Will this be added to Hatton.tv's youtube website, so fans can watch it later? (as most of the other Hatton shows broadcast on youtube have been lately). No offence, but I'd pick the allegedly show to watch live, and this to watch in its entireity on sat or sun ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Hope Gethin is recovered properly. Nasty things those back operations and not always easy to get back to the level you were at.nigeltsport wrote:Midlands Area Welterweight title fight live from Walsall at 9pm tonight on Hatton TV YouTube channel. Also Martin Gethin's first fight back after surgery

McKervey looked ready to go in the second, could be over soon...
Re: Sean McKervey v Jason Welborn live tonight on YouTube
McKervey never seemed to have the size or power to hurt Welborn

No, Welborn looked absolutely huge at the weight. Could've passed as a middle!

I was there on his debut when he took out Jamie Ambler at 12st. Jason is strong as an ox.freddydoesdallas wrote:No, Welborn looked absolutely huge at the weight. Could've passed as a middle!

Christ, he's done well to get down to 10,7 then. Gutted for McKervey though and for Coventry boxing. It looked like we could have had a couple of people stepping up to English level but after tonight and the Twins, Flinn & Troy losing in big fights/prizefighter, it has gone a bit flat again. Hopefully, they'll bounce backPodmore_Birmingham wrote:I was there on his debut when he took out Jamie Ambler at 12st. I think Flinny can bounce back - and Rhys and Llewy are back in the New Year. Cruiserweight is wide open and though he got done by Shane, Rhys has the talent to make some noise next year, i'm sure.freddydoesdallas wrote:Christ, he's done well to get down to 10,7 then. Word on the street, or at least in my ear, is that Troy is boxing Barrington Brown again for Area featherweight title next year.

I have heard that about Troy, think he's on a card in Bedworth again in early December so hopefully Prizefighter has helped him figure out what he needs to do to get to the higher levels.
The twins have a chance too but they need to realise the level they're at yet. Before they lost (Llewy in Prizefighter and Rhys against Shane) i had heard that they were talking about silly opponents and how they would deal with them

totally agree i rate rhys very high but b4 he fought shane he did 6 interviews saying he was fighting for the british title after that fight and all sorts but i think he took shane to lightly. Also he is not big enough to be a crusier for example matty askin is 6ft4 and he would get picked off too easy.freddydoesdallas wrote:I have heard that about Troy, think he's on a card in Bedworth again in early December so hopefully Prizefighter has helped him figure out what he needs to do to get to the higher levels.

Yeah, i didn't like hearing all of that before that fight. I can understand fighters being confident but you've got to run before you can walk. Before your brother (i take it), Rhys hadn't fought anyone who would really fight back as opposed to covering up.clintonmcphilbin wrote:totally agree i rate rhys very high but b4 he fought shane he did 6 interviews saying he was fighting for the british title after that fight and all sorts but i think he took shane to lightly.
