Bantamweight Martin Power (12-0-0) seems to have landed a southern area title shot against James Yelland. Any thoughts on this young prospect ?

Power lost to Steve Foster twice in ABA finals (points), which ain't bad form, and has improved as a pro. He's a good attacking fighter, and the Yelland match is a surprisingly good one. Yelland is no pushover. Do you know when this is taking place?

I have not seen this young fellow fight as yet but i think that Yelland can indicate to us whether he is to be taken seriously or not. His name doesn't seem to cross over to his punching too much (excuse the pun) with 5 stopped in 12 but he has some of the old faithful on his record including Anthony Hanna and Davie Hinds and has beaten wannabee journeyman Rocky Dean too.

Yelland obviously has more experience having mixed it with recent Steve Molitor victim John Mackay who beat him while still a novice but he won the English Title and took Nicky Booth the full 12 for the British belt but has since lost to Isaac Ward.

I pick Power for this one but it shall be interesting.

I've always kept an eye on Martin's progress, mainly because he was from my old club, St Pancras. As a junior he used to get a lot of coverage by the local rag even then, he had trouble getting fights.

I've seen him a couple of times as a pro at the York Hall and he seems to have a propensity to make fights hard for himself and get dragged into a war. Good potential though and he's managed to get this far undefeated, good luck to him.

Yeah I read that the Southern Area council paired these two for the vacant crown. It's a potential cracker.

Like someone said earlier Power seems to lack that knockout punch, but has some classy moves and keeps a good work rate going. Yelland put up a great showing against Nicky Booth but I think got de-railed last time out, so i would say the form is with Martin. Hope it gets a good slot on TV,because the contest deserves it.

Its a good fight, possibly deserving a little more than the southern area belt. I give the edge to Power.
